Mirena IUD Update from Dr Niamh Logue 👩⚕️ Exciting news! The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), the agency in Australia that regulates our use of medicines and medical devices, has approved the Mirena IUD for contraception for up to 8 years. Here's what you need to know: If you have a Mirena IUD in place or are planning to get one for contraception, it can now be left in place for up to 8 years. If you have a Mirena to help control heavy periods, it still needs to be changed every 5 years. For those using Mirena as part of menopausal hormone therapy (HRT), it also needs to be replaced every 5 years. This update is specifically for contraception. For other uses, the 5-year replacement guideline remains the same. Stay informed and book a consultation if you have any questions about your Mirena IUD! 🌿 #WomensHealth #MirenaIUD #ContraceptionUpdate #SurfcoastWomensHealth #HereToHelp #HealthcareForWomen

Mike Jones of Community Pharmacy Nottinghamshire comments: “We are excited to bring you this contraception learning opportunity. This is a great opportunity for those who are not yet signed up to this service. We are keen to get you trained and signed up to the service by the end of March 2025. 📢 Improving IUD Experience: Addressing the Pain Barrier 🔹 The Importance of IUDs: It has been well established that both hormonal and copper IUDs are highly effective forms of contraception, offering long-term protection and empowering women with more control over their reproductive health. 🔹 The Pain Barrier: However, despite their benefits, the pain associated with IUD insertion is a significant barrier for many. Recognizing this, the CDC has issued new guidelines to better manage pain during the procedure, ensuring more personalized care. The CDC has issued new guidelines to address the pain associated with IUD insertions, a significant concern for many patients. The guidance emphasizes shared decision-making between doctors and patients, offering more pain relief options such as anesthetic gels and creams. This change aims to acknowledge the individualized nature of pain and improve patient care. Trimedic understands the importance of addressing the pain associated with IUD insertions, as it remains a barrier to women seeking effective contraception options. We are committed to supporting solutions that improve patient comfort and access. #WomenHealth #IUD #Contraception #CDC #HealthcareInnovation #PatientCare #Trimedic
