So much to see, learn and absorb at this year’s Indo-Pacific Space and Earth Conference (IPSEC), alongside the 30th Asia Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum (APRSAF) and The Andy Thomas Space Foundation Education Forum. ASDA is a Community Partner to #IPSEC2024, and National Committee Member Eleanor Ingram shares her observations from IPSEC and the joint exhibition. "It was wonderful to see collaboration in the space community and ASDA Committee members spent time connecting and engaging with many conference attendees, where we discussed and explored diversity, inclusion in the industry, and the opportunities available to them." At APRSAF, National Committee members Katie Mouser MAHRI and Anntonette Dailey spoke at the Working Group ‘Space Education for All’. During their presentation, they highlighted current statistics on women’s participation in the space sector, referencing data from the aviation and STEM fields to underscore the importance of ASDA's efforts. Other Committee members representing ASDA, include Dr Sheila Gough Kenyon ♾️, Larry James, and Erin Madden. For a limited time, you can download a free PDF of Asia’s Space Ambitions, a multi-author piece just published in 𝐴𝑠𝑖𝑎 𝑃𝑜𝑙𝑖𝑐𝑦 by National Bureau of Asian Research. It provides an excellent survey of the space aspirations of several nations. Authors include: myself (US), @lincolnhines (China), Saadia M. Pekkanen (Japan), Rajeswari Pallai Rajagopalan (India), Sangwoo Shin (S. Korea), Brian Gallant & Jordan Miller (Canda), Cassandra Steer (Australia), Hema Nadarjah (Singapore). I was quite honored to be asked to write the piece on US space efforts and plans and to step into the footsteps of the legendary John M. Logsdon who wrote that section the last publication. In 2020 John wrote: "𝘕𝘰 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘺 𝘰𝘳 𝘢𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘦𝘷𝘦 𝘴𝘶𝘤𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘜.𝘚. 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘪𝘵𝘴 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴. Developing those rules, given the nationalistic character of current U.S. space policy, will pose a continuing challenge to international space diplomacy." I conclude with: "𝘍𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳, 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘰𝘭𝘢𝘳 𝘴𝘺𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘮 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘥𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘧𝘪𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘩𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘤𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘭𝘺 𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘨𝘰𝘢𝘭𝘴. 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 🚀 On 29 November, in the next EU Competitiveness Council (Research and Space) meeting, the space ministers will decide on reinforcing European Competitiveness, conclude on the Midterm assessment of the Space Programme and hold a policy debate on the future of the Union's space policy. 🛰️ I hope the Ministers can make some important steps forward in this meeting. We see more and more national space initiatives. All these investments must have their positive effect on the space industry. But scale and coordination is important in our industry. That's why we need a clear EU Space policy and strong EU leadership. #space EUSPA - EU Agency for the Space Programme European Space Agency - ESA
