TechForce opens survey on career wants and needs of students and newly employed technicians The TechForce Foundation is taking action to combat the technician shortage by launching a survey called "Techs Talk." Unlike traditional technician surveys that primarily gather data from older generations, "Techs Talk" specifically targets aspiring and newly employed technicians, particularly Gen Z. This strategic approach aims to gain valuable insights into the perspectives, values, and experiences of this younger demographic. TechForce hopes to leverage this data to address the critical technician shortage. There's a significant job market imbalance with three openings available for every graduate. However, many young people are deterred from entering the field due to reasons like high training and tool costs, unclear career paths, and work-life balance concerns. By understanding the specific needs and desires of this new generation of technicians, TechForce can work with educational institutions and employers to create a more attractive and sustainable technician career path. ❌Which is harder? Technician or Advisor? 🤔 Technician! No wait Advisor. Hang on… I’ve been both. I can tell you precisely how difficult each position is and can be. But what I cannot do (and will not even bother attempting) is define which position is harder than the other. Is teaching third graders harder than working in a factory? Is being a husband harder than being a wife? (Please don’t ask your spouse this. 😂) Is a fruit more fruity than a vegetable is veggie? The point is, it’s not comparable. Each position has its own difficulties and skill sets they necessitate. If you are a tech who is concerned with how much harder your job is than the advisor. If your are an advisor who is concerned with how much harder your job is than the tech. You are both missing the mark. Who then is concerned about the mission? The customer? The team? Instead of comparing hardships and difficulties, why not discuss how each team member can help the other to overcome those difficulties together? That’s cover and move. A great teamwork concept. ✅ One team mentality. Check egos at the door. —— I’m Chris Craig. I create daily educational and coaching content for automotive employees. "Behind Every Successful Journey... There’s a Heart Beating with Technology" When thousands travel aboard the train, they don't think about the technical details that make their journey safe and smooth. As a technician on board, I live these details and understand that technology is not just about devices and systems; it’s the heartbeat behind every successful journey. My Passion for the Work: My role doesn't stop at inspecting equipment or repairing faults. It’s a daily journey of challenges that requires quick thinking and precision, knowing that every decision I make can make a difference in the safety and comfort of everyone on board. The Difference I Make: When I work on those complex systems, I feel like I’m part of something bigger. The technology I handle is not just tools; it’s the trust that passengers place in every journey. For me, every inspection and every adjustment is a step toward ensuring passenger safety and providing a seamless experience. A Journey of Learning: In this field, learning never stops, and challenges are opportunities for growth. If you share this passion for technology and responsibility, let’s connect and exchange experiences as we continue our journey in this ever-evolving world. #Technology #Maintenance #PassengerSafety #SelfDevelopment #Passion #Innovation #TechCareer #Teamwork #ContinuousLearning

“Your most important work is always ahead of you, never behind you.” – Stephen Covey. Meet Epscan's future. We want to extend a big welcome to our newest team members, Arang, Marvin, Raj, Max, Noah, and Tyson, who were attending the Industrial Instrumentation and Process Control Technician program at BCIT! This is the first time that most of these guys have been to Fort St. John, and they were inspired to expand their skill set after watching a presentation by Epscan's Corporate Strategy Officer Shane Stirling. On the first day of their orientation, we sat down with these five eager individuals to see why they wanted to share their thoughts on the journey ahead. Here's what they shared: "A few older students who previously worked for Epscan gave some really good reviews and had good things to say about [the company]. I wanted just to come up here and see what it's all about." "I joined Epscan because I wanted to get the instrumentation. I wanted to get my hands into troubleshooting and learn about electrical work." "When Shane Stirling told us that all the journeymen have been here for a while, that stuck with me because I know I can ask them for help, and they'll help me out." "I'm looking forward to being here for a while so that I can improve my skills and then move on with my career." Best of luck in your new adventure, guys! I can't wait to hear about your experiences as part of the Epscan team. #longterm #careers #employeesmatter #hiring #living #gratitude #BCIT
