An important report released last month by the IEA that I had completely missed. That batteries are indispensable to the energy transition is fairly obvious but the report puts some recent numbers to it, e.g., * 14-fold growth to 1.2 TW by 2030. * 60% of emission reductions in the energy sector by 2030 under NZE scenario are associated with batteries. * Under the NZE scenario, the global market for EV battery packs will more than quadruple from $120 billion to 500 billion by 2030. From the beginning of the electrification evolution, the U.S. has struggled to keep up with the Chinese battery giants, and has also fallen behind Europe in some battery production and adoption areas. Tesla and Intersect Power have announced a significant contract for 15.3 GWh of Tesla Megapacks for Intersect Power's solar + battery storage projects through 2030. This deal enhances Intersect Power's position as one of the largest buyers and operators of Megapacks globally, with nearly 10 GWh of large-scale energy storage expected by the end of 2027. Tesla previously supplied Megapacks for Intersect Power’s Base Portfolio, totaling 2.4 GWh. Over half of the new Megapacks will support projects in California and Texas, expected to be operational by 2027. The remaining units will be used in subsequent projects, set to go live between 2028 and 2030. Michael Snyder, Senior Director of Tesla Energy, praised Intersect Power's development expertise, while Intersect Power CEO Sheldon Kimber highlighted Tesla's unmatched storage technology experience.
