How will Montana Renewables’ SAF production impact the future of sustainable air travel? Montana Renewables, LLC (MRL) has successfully delivered its first shipment of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to Detroit Metropolitan Airport - DTW. This 7,000-gallon SAF supply, made from camelina oil and utilized by Delta Air Lines, marks a step forward in decarbonizing air travel. Bruce Fleming, CEO of MRL, highlighted the importance of using camelina oil, a renewable non-food source that benefits farmers by providing an additional cash crop. MRL recently received a $1.44 billion guarantee from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to expand its Great Falls, Montana, facility into a major SAF production center, increasing biofuel output from 140 million to 315 million gallons per year. This expansion emphasizes MRL’s dedication to innovative, scalable solutions in sustainable aviation. What role do you see SAF and biofuels playing in the future of aviation?
