I always enjoy posts from Brad Hightower, Dan Sfera, and other site owners—not just because they’re often hilarious, but because they dive into the raw realities of running a clinical research site. Great job! It’s not an easy road. Between keeping the study pipeline full to maintain revenue, recruiting qualified PIs, hiring great site managers, and ensuring a strong team of CRCs, lab techs, and assistants, there’s no shortage of challenges. And then, there are the “hidden costs” of running a site: navigating complex clinical protocols, managing collections, and keeping the cash flow steady. It’s like fixing a car where every repair seems to reveal another layer of labor costs and complexity. But the toughest part? Often, it's not the logistics or funding—it's being the cheerleader, mentor, and leader all rolled into one. Hats off to all of you tackling these challenges day in and day out. Today's Ask me Anything question is from an MSL Manager who recently lost 2 of her team to roles in launch products - she's worried her team is demoralized and wonders how to "keep them" when her team works on older products. I talk about this frequent issue by suggesting that it's not only about having new data/products and there is a real opportunity for her team to get back to "why" they are MSLs in a truly meaningful way - asking their KOL/HCPs about the patient challenges/how they work to solve those and really trying to define if there are gaps that the MSL/Medical Affairs and th company can work in partnership to address. This can be extremely fulfilling and also help to drive strategic imperatives! I am also a big believer in authenticity, as you likely know, and I recommend that they have a very authentic discussion with their team and dig into how they are feeling. Moving beyond the directive conversation will really solidify bonds in the team. Remember many people stay in role because they value their relationships so deeply!
