𝐀𝐈 𝐓𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐬 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐃𝐨𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬 An AI tool, Mia, has demonstrated its capability to detect signs of cancer overlooked by human radiologists. Piloted alongside NHS clinicians in the UK, Mia analyzed mammograms of over 10,000 women and successfully flagged all cases of breast cancer, including 11 that doctors missed. Trained on a dataset of over 6,000 previous breast cancer cases, Mia identified cancer with 81.6 percent accuracy and correctly ruled it out 72.9 percent of the time. This tool is now being further developed to predict patients' risks of side effects like lymphoedema after surgery and radiotherapy, enabling more personalized care. The research team plans to validate the AI's risk prediction model in a clinical trial called Pre-Act, involving 780 breast cancer patients over two years. #Don't Miss the Healthcare Summit! Highlighted Paper! A recent Danish retrospective study highlights the impact of AI implementation on mammography screening. Here are the key findings: 1️⃣ AI in Mammography Screening: Utilizing Transpara by ScreenPoint Medical, this study compared mammograms of 118,997 women aged 50–69 before and after AI implementation. 2️⃣ Radiologists' Workload & Screening Efficiency: AI stratified screenings by cancer probability, adjusting the score threshold to determine the need for single or double readings with AI support. 3️⃣ Significant Improvements: Recall Rate: Decreased by 20.5% (from 3.09% to 2.46%). Cancer Detection: Increased from 0.70% to 0.82%. False-Positive Rate: Reduced from 2.39% to 1.63%. Positive Predictive Value: Increased from 22.6% to 33.6%. Small Cancers Detection: Increased from 36.6% to 44.9%. 4️⃣ Workload Reduction: The reading workload was reduced by 33.5%, equating to 38,977 fewer readings, showcasing AI's potential to enhance screening efficiency and accuracy. Radiologists tell us evaluating lung nodules is a tedious, time-consuming task. Moreover, it's a depressing one: all too often, the patient they are evaluating has lung cancer at an advanced stage, too late to be treated effectively. contextflow is out to change that. This year, we integrated malignancy scoring from our partner Reveal-Dx. 🚨 Advancing Lung Cancer Diagnostics with Real-Time Imaging 🚨 A recent CHEST journal commentary from Dr. Pallav Shah and the team at Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals highlights some of the recent advancements in bronchoscopic lung nodule biopsy. While traditional CT-guided biopsies remain the gold standard due to high diagnostic accuracy, its associated with a significant complication rates. Newer technologies like LungVision® by Body Vision Medical, which uses AI to integrate real-time, C-arm-based tomography with augmented fluoroscopic navigation, show promise in improving diagnostic yields and safety.
