T-Mobile has opened beta registration for Starlink’s direct-to-smartphone satellite service, enabling text messaging early next year on select newer devices in most U.S. cellular dead zones with a clear sky view. The free beta program is available to all T-Mobile customers with compatible devices and postpaid voice plans, the telco announced Dec. 16, although first responders will receive priority access due to limited initial capacity.

Following on from my last post about Starlink... Our Celerway 5G units are another brilliant tool in our kit for event connectivity. They’ve delivered incredible results in many situations, but just like Starlink, they’re not a magic solution. When mobile cells get saturated—something that happens all too often at busy events—even the best 5G unit can’t perform miracles. It’s a harsh reality of our industry: no single technology can handle every scenario perfectly. Whether it’s satellite, 5G, or traditional fixed lines, each has its place, and the real skill lies in knowing how and when to use them together. The search for a "silver bullet" continues, but for now, adaptability and a mix of approaches remain our best bet.

Setting up Starlink involves a simple process: users receive a kit with a satellite dish, tripod, and router. They place the dish in a clear area where it automatically aligns with Starlink satellites. Connecting the router to the dish and devices completes the setup, providing fast internet access. This straightforward approach makes accessing Starlink's advanced satellite internet technology both efficient and user-friendly. 🌟 Even as a dedicated #Starlink fan, Colby knows that no single Internet source is flawless. That's why he’s turned to our #BOne5G for seamless, automatic switching between Starlink and #5G, which gives him maximum network reliability. 🚀🔗 What Colby particularly likes about the B One 5G is its all-in-one design. There's even no need for physical SIMs—thanks to #Peplink's #eSIM data plans, data can be loaded onto the device automatically, providing access to multiple carriers and #SpeedFusion technology whenever you need it. 📶💡 📹 Check out the video to hear Colby’s thoughts on the B One 5G: https://lnkd.in/ggBaZkTt #Peplink #Starlink #5G #InternetSolutions #TechReview

This is a very important milestone in telecommunications: the first lower latency, higher bandwidth direct connection from Starlink satellites to normal cell phones, without connecting thru land-based cellular towers. https://lnkd.in/gUMfkSNm More than two decades ago, Motorola launched the Iridium satellite constellation but it required special, bulky and expensive handheld devices. The Starlink constellation can offer for the first time an internet connectivity that will be compatible with billions of cell phones in areas without cellular services. Its encryption system will also make that very secure.
