OptraSCAN just landed $30 million in Series B, and if you think this is just another funding round, think again. Abhi Gholap and his team are taking digital pathology global, and they’re doing it with a vision that’s way bigger than just tech for tech’s sake. Led by Molbio Diagnostics, this round is geared to bring OptraSCAN’s cloud-enabled whole-slide scanning systems and AI-driven analysis to every corner of the healthcare world—making advanced diagnostics as easy to access as a streaming subscription. So here’s the setup: they’re not just selling the latest in slide scanning and AI; they’re putting diagnostics power into places where it’s never been before. With a flexible, pay-per-use model, OptraSCAN’s bringing down the barriers that keep quality healthcare from reaching underserved regions. That’s six patents and counting, all aimed at making it possible for both big-name labs and small clinics to get high-speed, high-accuracy diagnostics at a fraction of the cost and time. Molbio Diagnostics Sriram Natarajan knows what he’s backing: a company with the guts to reshape healthcare access. Molbio’s no stranger to getting life-saving tech into the right hands, and they see OptraSCAN as the future of diagnostics on a global scale. With digital pathology projected to skyrocket to an $8.3 billion market by 2026, OptraSCAN is primed to lead. #HealthCare #HealthTech #Diagnostics #Technology #Innovation #TechEcosystem #StartupEcosystem #VentureCapital #StartupFunding #startups

PitchBook's Q3 MedTech report is officially live! PitchBook's analysts provide overviews on emerging opportunities in wound care and smart implants as well as specific company coverage on some of the major players in these spaces! Key Takeaways: • The $3.2 billion of VC funding in Q3 was in line with previous quarters - this quarter also saw a new leader for the largest deal in Medtech this year with Element Biosciences’ $277 million VC round surpassing Freenome’s February $254 million Series F. • Results from the US Election is not expected to have a major impact on the Medtech sector, though on the margin there is likely to be less M&A antitrust scrutiny from the new administration. Two areas of potential change that we're watching: evolving regulation for lab-developed tests (LDTs), and CMS’ coverage decision-making for FDA-designated Breakthrough Devices. • Though VC deal activity has remained in a holding pattern, exits have been picking up and Tempus' successful IPO & solid post-listing share price performance bodes well for the Medtech exit pipeline. In Q3 alone, several startups including Endotronix, Paragonix, Innovalve, and Endomag were all acquired at values exceeding $100 million. • Q3 was an eventful quarter in surgical robotics with new FDA clearances for CMR Surgical (Versius) and Moon Surgical (Maestro), and strong results for publicly traded category leader Intuitive Surgical. And YTD, there has been over $360 million of VC funding in surgical robotics as the sector remains a leading investment category.

“Accept the time it takes. You can move fast on technology development and fail fast. But probably slow down over the clinical and regulatory process, and then be prepared to accelerate really strongly on the back end of that.” Steffen Hovard, CEO of Neuspera Medical Inc., has spent over 30 years in the medical device field. At Coloplast, a Danish medtech company, he led major initiatives, including an acquisition that eventually brought him to the U.S. from Denmark. Now at Neuspera, Steffen is steering an innovative approach to neuromodulation technology. Neuspera’s device is designed to treat conditions like overactive bladder, using a less invasive, “microimplant” system that doesn’t require a traditional battery or bulky hardware. Here's a quick look at Steffen’s interview with Scott Nelson: 🌐 In medtech, development timelines can stretch over a decade. Before pouring resources into an idea, it’s crucial to confirm its relevance and market potential and then get the right people on board. Building your network early helps with finding the right talent as well as the right investors. 🕰️ Align your pace with the development stage you’re at. Move fast in early development but slow down and be thorough in the clinical stages. Then, be ready to pick up speed and go full throttle when commercialization approaches. 🔋Perfect your pitch and refine your story to make a strong impression. View each investor interaction as a long-term relationship rather than a one-time opportunity; stay in touch, and show consistent progress. Above all, bring energy and resilience to each pitch. Click the link in the comments for the full interview. This Medsider episode was brought to you by FastWave Medical, a hot IVL startup in the cardiovascular space. Don’t miss out on their next fundraise (more details in the comments).
