UD Trucks Singapore have organised the biennial local UD Extra Mile Challenge 2024. The UD Extra Mile Challenge motivates truck drivers to travel effectively and safely. This international competition challenges Quon tractor drivers to improve their driving skills, focusing on fuel efficiency and safety. The challenge aims to motivate and equip truck drivers with the tools to go the extra miles in their career. By improving their driving skills, it will lead to an increase fuel efficiency, lowering expenses, and promoting environmental responsibility. In 2024 edition of the UD Extra Mile Challenge, there is a total of 10 participants from 5 different companies competing to be the Ultimate Driver. After a round of pre-qualifier, 5 will proceed to the Singapore Final. Who will be the Singapore next Ultimate Driver? Stay tune for the result.

The start of 2024 may mean many things for us in the fleet industry, but it starts with a list of vehicles which no longer have a valid ANCAP Safety Rating, as they expired on 31 December 2023. According to an email we received from ANCAP yesterday, the list includes: * Alfa Romeo Stelvio * Audi Q5 * BMW iX3 * BMW X3 * BMW X4 * Citroen C3 * Ford Mustang * Jaguar E-PACE * Jaguar F-PACE * Jeep Cherokee * Kia Picanto * Land Rover Discovery * Land Rover Range Rover Velar * Mazda CX-5 * Mazda CX-9 * Mazda MX-5 * Mini Countryman * Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross * Renault Koleos * Skoda Karoq * Skoda Kodiaq * Toyota C-HR * Toyota Landcruiser 70 Series * Volkswagen Arteon * Volkswagen T-Roc * Volvo XC60 The email also provided details of those vehicles which may expire at the end of 2024 and contains some big volume models such as the Hyundai I30 and Toyota Camry and Corolla. On that basis, we'd have to imagine that updated models would be released and provided to ANCAP for testing this year but we'll see. While there appears to be some debate in the industry over the 'real world' relevance/application of the current rating system, it must be acknowledged that it provides Fleet Managers that have risk management responsibilities with clear and easily referenced safety benchmark data and that fleet policies normally mandate the purchase of 5 star ANCAP Safety Rated vehicles.
