As we celebrate International Youth Day 2024, we recognise the immense potential and vitality that young people bring to our communities. The theme for this year highlights the importance of "Youth Empowerment for a Sustainable Future," underscoring the critical role that young people play in addressing global challenges, from climate change to social justice. Nigeria with its vibrant and dynamic youth population, stands at a pivotal moment. With over 70% of the population under the age of 30 and 42% under 15, the future of our nation rests in the hands of these young individuals. They are not just tomorrow's leaders—they are today's changemakers. This International Youth Day, AYGF reaffirms its commitment to empowering young people by advocating for their inclusion in decision-making processes, policy development, and leadership roles. We must ensure that their voices are heard, their ideas are valued, and their contributions are recognised. Let’s celebrate the creativity, resilience, and passion of our youth, who are tirelessly working towards a better, more sustainable world. By supporting and investing in their potential we are investing in a brighter future for all. Join us in commemorating International Youth Day 2024 as we continue to empower, inspire, and uplift the youths of today, for a better tomorrow. #aygf #internationalyouthday

It is an honor to be a part of the journey of the 2024 African United Nations Youth Delegates. Their passion and focus on Youth Peace and Security (YPS), meaningful youth engagement, and youth employment mandates have been inspiring, particularly in the following areas: 1. The strategic development and support of youth-based frameworks across the UN system and the African Union (AU) to help actualize the Secretary-General's report on meaningful youth engagement. 2. The development of youth-focused frameworks on the existing reforms towards the Security Council, with an emphasis on establishing youth councils at the regional level. 3. The establishment of local value chains that are African-based and the exploration of new modalities of funding for sustainable development that are subject to youth scrutiny. These initiatives demonstrate the readiness of the youth to engage in discussions, build context, adopt intergenerational approaches, and work towards a better Africa.
The United Nations Association of Tanzania creates platforms that empowers youth as catalysts for national and global transformation. Through the African United Nations Youth Delegates Program, this year young leaders from Tanzania and across Africa were prepared to represent the youth of their countries at the UN General Assembly, ensuring their voices were heard on issues such as youth engagement, employment, and peace. Their participation symbolized hopes and solutions of African youth. This milestone reflects UNA Tanzania’s dedication to providing life-changing opportunities and building a sustainable future. By providing youth with such platforms, we have witnessed their potential to lead and shape global conversations. This achievement is a testament to what can be accomplished through collective efforts in supporting the next generation of change-makers.

We celebrated the 24th International Youth Day yesterday to reflect on young people's challenges and recognise their significant impact worldwide. In continuation of that deserved recognition, this post is dedicated to honouring the resilience, passion, and grit of our youth ambassadors and volunteers towards peacebuilding and development across varied Nigeria communities and in the diaspora, and also to the innumerable youth peacebuilders and changemakers who contribute to making our world a better place. Young people globally work, often unnoticed, in diverse areas such as climate change, peacebuilding, human rights, education, equality and inclusion, and security, among others, leveraging technology and digital innovations more than ever. Nevertheless, the challenges facing the youth are numerous, which is why this season is important – to reflect on what is going on in the youth world and give necessary support to advance their voice. While we look inward to encourage ourselves as a youth-led organisation to keep up our excellent work, we also extend similar encouragement to every youth and youth-led organisation to never give up on transforming our world positively. Our world needs all hands on deck; we need you to survive, young people. Keep leveraging digital innovation for sustainable peace and development. You matter, youth. #youthcelebration #digitalinnovation #progress #sdgs

The Pan African Youth Forum is a dynamic and influential platform initiated by the African Union that aims to channel youth voices in shaping the continent's future by engaging youth in implementing Agenda 2063. It gathers young African leaders, activists, innovators, and change-makers from various backgrounds and countries. The forum provides a space for dialogue, collaboration, and the exchange of ideas, enabling young Africans to address pressing issues, share experiences, and propose innovative solutions to the challenges facing their communities and the continent. This year, the Pan-African Youth Forum will be organized under the theme “1 Million Next Level is Knocking: Educate an African Fit for the 21st Century”. The forum will serve as a platform for youth to engage in critical discussions, contribute to the development of robust educational systems, and strengthen Africa’s capacity for inclusive, equitable, and lifelong learning opportunities. #AfricanYouthMonth2024 #AYM2024 #PanAfricanYouthFourm24 #Youth4Development #Agenda2063Implementation

We celebrated an incredible International Youth Day on August 12! 👦🏼🧒🏽👧🏿🌍 Our panelists shared valuable insights on the role of youth in peace and security. Here’s a thought-provoking quote from Saji Prelis when we posed the question: How urgent and necessary is it to include youth in peace and security for sustainable development? 🕊️🌱 "Current solutions are failing, and the existing systems do not meet people's present needs and are unfit for the future. As a result, we require an all-of-society approach. With the median age in Africa being just 19, we need a human-centered approach that prioritizes youth. It’s also essential to recognize that young people are already on the frontlines, engaging in promising and constructive initiatives that not only serve their own interests but also address the needs of society as a whole." ❌🧒🌟 Want to stay updated on our upcoming events?
