How do I know my personal mission? Back in December, 2024, I got accepted into the Data Science Program by ALX GHANA which requires that we complete a 13-week Professional Foundation (PF) program highlighting essential soft skills for life and career. Fast forward, week 2 of PF requires finding our personal mission for life which is very important but most people seem not to have one and others find it difficult to discover their purpose in life. Earlier, I replied to a post on my squad on the alx_africa community about this particular question, and I thought I should share it here as well. Here are my thoughts. A personal mission, I think, should highlight the entirety of the person you want to become. As a reflection on your life, things change every day. No single person has the same experiences from week to week, month to month, and throughout the years, but in the end, when you are 60 or 70 years old, at the time when you no longer have the energy of the young or innocence of a child, would you be proud of whom you’ve become? Would you be pleased with the life you lived? The achievements, the failures, the regrets, and the missed opportunities. Would you say your life was meaningful? I think if we introspect and find answers to these questions, we will find the balance of our personal mission and align that to the opportunities the world presents to solve the world’s challenges. My father often says, at the brink of death, your entire life flashes before your eyes. I can not validate its truth but then, I would not want to see regrets, failures or opportunities I missed but rather the smiles I brought on people's faces, knowing that I contributed to solving their problems one way or the other. Knowing I passed on the knowledge I acquired for people to benefit from. Knowing someone life is a little better because I decided to help in my own small way. It's all in the small efforts we make every day as a collective whole. Africa will only be great if we believe it is great and we towards its greatness as a people, and someday, the next generation will live it all joys because their ancestors laid a good foundation. #Riverson Oppong, PhD. #alx_africa #ALX GHANA #growth
