Very interesting presentation here recently at the JK, on potential downstream effects of changes to comminution aspects of a circuit.
Last week, Dr. Stephen Morrell from SMC Testing presented the Friday seminar at JKMRC. His talk, "Improving the Energy Efficiency of Comminution – Be Careful What You Wish For!" highlighted the importance of taking a holistic view of the entire process that comminution contributes to, particularly regarding the potential impact on greenhouse gas emissions. A recording of the talk is available here: https://lnkd.in/gjHyXKYt For more information on our comminution consulting and lab services, including SMC Testing, feel free to contact us at jktech@jktech.com.au #jktech #smctesting #smc #jkdwt #jkmrc #comminution Matt Weier, Diana Felipe, David Di Sandro, Lachlan Kennelly, Thu Nguyen, Percy Madrid, Timothy Vizcarra

#MPGC2024 DAY 2: Achieving low carbon hydrogen at scale Hydrogen is inching forward as a clean energy frontrunner, poised to replace natural gas in various sectors. Yet, on the flip side, natural gas leverages its established infrastructure as a cornerstone for hydrogen distribution. It's fascinating to see these elements not just vying for the top spot but also joining forces for efficiency and sustainability. Let's champion innovation and collaboration for a greener future! Updates to #EPA’s #GHG reporting requirements (Subpart W) are now available in the pre-publication version. This will be effective January 1, 2025 and will impact how much folks in the #oilandgas industry pay under the new #methane Waste Emissions Charge (WEC). It's almost 1,000 pages, but here's the fact sheet.

The Three Main Steps Of Carbon Capture & Storage - Protea has been running a number of articles on CCS during the year with a focus on the latest initiatives and activities around the globe. We thought we would revisit the principles of the process. Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is a process designed to capture carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions produced from industrial processes or power generation and prevent them from entering the atmosphere. The captured CO2 is then transported to a storage site, typically deep underground, where it is securely stored to prevent its release into the atmosphere. Great session to share perspectives on low carbon hydrogen. As business developer for 20 years with Linde on hydrogen, and past 4 years having focused on Linde's low carbon hydrogen and RE-based green hydrogen across Apac, I shared the following: 1) technologies are key to bring down costs. I shared Linde's efforts to integrate and optimize to bring down costs, particularly RE-based green hydrogen. And, I also shared examples, Linde's ammonia cracking technology to enable hydrogen transport as well as large hydrogen liquefaction. 2) need to be pragmatic. While Linde is working on both low carbon hydrogen (CCS-enabled) and RE-based green hydrogen, the maturity is very different. Low carbon hydrogen will still be more viable in many geographies in the next 10-20 years before costs of RE-based green hydrogen are coming down. 3) need to be realistic. Great to see more rationale and realism recently. Again, this has to do with the debate of low carbon hydrogen (CCS-enabled) and RE-based hydrogen, the cost and technology maturity. Realism is critical for right policy-making and confidence building. 4) identify lower-hanging fruits. Government budget is limited. Hard-to-abate industries should be prioritised. This is exactly what Linde is pursuing.

It was a great pleasure to moderate one of the sessions at DAY 2 #MPGC2024 Achieving low carbon hydrogen at scale. Together with Yasin KASIRGA Robin Mills Wen-Bin Qian we discussed that visible progress has been made in the development of low-carbon hydrogen technologies since 2019 around the world with Japan, Europe and the USA leading the way, while Middle East is actively involved in early steps of the trade. Issues with costs remain. We need to trust technology and science, but at the same time need to be pragmatics as well and realize that even though hydrogen will play a very significant role in decarbonizing industrial had to abate sectors it won’t push out natural gas out of the energy mix. Hydrogen will be a part of a diverse energy mix of the future.

The focus on decarbonisation has been predominantly on ‘Fabric First’ approaches and reducing energy demand, with minimal attention to the pivotal aspect of reducing fossil fuel-powered heating which delivers true decarbonisation. We believe it's time to change and really ramp up our retrofit efforts to achieve net zero goals. Our director Neil Waite shares his views on the EPC C dilemma, rethinking fabric first, whether SHDF 3.0 is a beacon of hope and much more. https://bit.ly/4bDzqFA #Decarbonisation #Netzero #Retrofit #SHDF #EPCC

Did you know that we are a significant producer of bioelectricity? The total electricity self-sufficiency rate of Metsä Fibre’s mills is 159 per cent. The bioenergy we generate is delivered as electricity to the grid and as district heat to nearby communities. #MetsäFibre #EnergyEfficiency #SDG6 #SDG7 #SDG12
