First Green Heroes Event at BABOR BEAUTY CLUSTER In November, BABOR BEAUTY GROUP organized the very first Green Heroes Event. Three teams competed enthusiastically in the Green Olympics, participating in three exciting and impactful challenges: a treasure hunt, a litter collection drive, and tree planting at Dr.-Leo-Vossen-Allee. The street leading up to the company’s new production and logistics cluster has recently been renamed in honor of first-generation company owner Dr. Leo Vossen, who developed the idea of scientist Dr. Michael Babor into a global beauty brand: BABOR. Throughout the event, employees shared inspirational talks on the BABOR Bees, carbon reduction and compensation strategies, as well as waste reduction initiatives. A huge thank you to our speakers, Carmen Müller, Sarah-Maria Wegner, Lina Kamal, and Christiane Foerster, for their valuable insights. The day ended with a warm and delicious bowl of Hokkaido soup cooked by chef Christian Quadflieg from BABOR BEAUTY GROUP’s highly decorated corporate restaurant —perfect for a chilly afternoon. Thank you to everyone who came together to make Leo-Vossen-Allee greener and helped create such a beautiful (and fun!) day.

Indeed, not only is the brand the coolest but so are the three founders Roger Nefkens Dennis Kamst and Almar Fernhout. I genuinely think I am the person that has bought and tried every single non-plastic option of toothpaste on the European market. I tolerated some rather bland (I'm being nice), mushy creams only because of how massive the damage of conventional plastic toothpaste tubes are to planet and I was so relieved when I came across Smyle! Finally an option that was better than what we had before. Funny that sometimes we do just love certain brands and SMYLE is one for me. It's fresh, it's non-toxic for your body (many well-known brands of toothpaste contain plastics in the paste you put in your mouth too - have you checked yours?) and it doesn't suffocate wildlife. Smyle is still a young company and yet their impact is already meaningful and growing. Here's a fun fact: People who brush twice a day use an average of 1 toothpaste tube per month. That means that in 2024, thanks to those that opt for Smyle, we will have saved 5 million tubes together. But what if those of you reading that aren't already buying Smyle tried it too and we smashed that number out of the water? Can we make it more than 5 million plastic tubes displaced by the end of the year? I leave it in your hands and will report back at the end of the year. Let me know if the challenge is on.
🎉 WOW! 🎉 SMYLE wins with the COOLEST DUTCH BRAND AWARD! 🏆✨ A huge thank you to our incredible staff and everyone who's been a part of the Smyle journey. This achievement wouldn't have been possible without your hard work and dedication. 🙌 A special shoutout to our fellow finalists, Willicroft and Nature House / Natuurhuisje. It's an honour to be recognised alongside such amazing brands! Joining the ranks of former winning brands like The Good Roll | B Corp, Fairphone, Marcel's Green Soap, VanMoof, The Vegetarian Butcher, and Naturalis Biodiversity Center Nederland is truly humbling. 🌟 Here's to continuing our mission of providing sustainable oral care and making a positive impact on the world! 🌍💚 #CoolestDutchBrand #Smyle #Sustainability #Gratitude #FMCG #Tandarts #retail #cool Fotografie Giuseppe Toppers, Danto Creatieve Communicatie

International Picnic Day is celebrated on June 18th every year. It is a day to enjoy the outdoors, relax, and bond with friends and family over a meal. Here are some key points about the day: History: The concept of picnicking originated in France during the French Revolution, when royal parks opened to the public. The term "picnic" comes from the French "pique-nique," meaning a social gathering where people bring their own food and eat together in nature. Celebrations: People celebrate International Picnic Day by organizing picnics in parks, gardens, or other outdoor spaces. They often bring a variety of foods, including sandwiches, fruit, and cheese, and engage in activities like games, frisbee, or simply enjoying nature. Global Observance: Picnics are a popular activity across the world, with different cultures adding their own unique twists. For example, in India, bhutta (sweet corn) and fruit chaat are common picnic items. Fun Facts: The world's largest picnic was held in Lisbon, Portugal, in 2009, with over 22,000 attendees. The Guinness Book of World Records also notes that picnics have been a staple of many cultures for years, with the French Revolution playing a significant role in popularizing the activity. Overall, International Picnic Day is a joyous celebration of the simple pleasures in life: good food, good company, and the beauty of nature.

I recently asked a professional in the events industry, "Why isn’t the industry talking more about transitioning to plant-forward event menus?" and she replied: "Once we solve food waste, we'll focus on plant-based options." My heart sunk. How much longer will we have to wait...?! I thought. The events industry has understandably been focused on FOOD WASTE—and for good reason. We've all had that cringeworthy experience watching perfectly good food get thrown out after an event, knowing it could’ve been put to better use. It's disturbing for everyone involved, and there are great organizations working to tackle this problem from prevention to food rescue. But here's something that's not getting enough attention: the environmental impact of food choices. Specifically, the source of the food (plant vs. animal-based) plays a much larger role in emissions than food waste alone. Well, here’s what I think: we don’t have to choose! These two issues go hand in hand. That’s why my colleagues Angélica Williams, Erin DeMarines 🌱 and I are excited to help event planners navigate the shift to plant-forward menus that not only reduce food waste but also make a big difference in your event's environmental impact. It is typical of humans to want to address "one thing at a time", whereas when it comes to health, both human and planetary, plant-based food systems address every (health) issue at once. Same in hospitality - it's all connected. We want to address food waste? We need to shift to more plant-based foods on the menu. We want to shift to more plant-based foods on the menu to lower our carbon footprint and attract a more diverse clientele, less waste will follow. I look much forward to the event! Are you joining?

Welcome to AGF Insider, our monthly series where we catch up with industry leaders in the sustainability world to find the current trends and best practices. 🌍💡 This month, we feature Artur Mendes, Co-Director of Boom Festival. Artur shares his insights on the best practices, emerging trends and obstacles in #sustainability within the events industry. "To truly advance sustainability in festivals, it's crucial to start with guiding paradigms before diving into specific practices. Too often, green events focus on isolated initiatives without embracing a holistic approach that considers the interconnectedness of all variables. While there are still relatively few festivals that operate from a broad integrative perspective, it's encouraging to see a growing interest and increasing demand from audiences. More promoters are recognising the importance of adopting sustainable practices." - Artur Mendes 🔍 Read the full interview with Artur here: https://lnkd.in/g7M2QAND Stay tuned for more expert insights every month! #AGFInsider #SustainableEvents #IndustryLeaders #GreenEvents #AGFSupport #EventProfs
