At the end of April, the New Trends in Civil Aviation 2024 (NTCA) conference was held in Prague ✈️. This was already the 24th year of a series of conferences organised by the Department of Air Transport of Fakulta dopravní ČVUT v Praze 🎓. The objective of these conferences is to provide a platform where members of communities interested in air transport operations and applications are able to interact. The conferences are designed for both specialists from practice and academics and serve as a forum for exchange of opinions and experience regarding technology, methodology, applications, and case studies as well as real cases in both civil and military aviation. NTCA originally used to focus on the Central European region, especially the Czech Republic and Slovakia, only but has gradually attracted the attention of other countries around the world. Michel Bacos was the captain of Air France Flight 139, which was hijacked and rerouted to Entebbe on June 27, 1976. On board were 240 passengers and 12 crew members when the flight took off from Tel Aviv. The hijackers released the non-Jewish hostages and offered to free Bacos and his crew, but Bacos, who was not Jewish, refused and stayed with the Jewish passengers until they were ultimately rescued by the IDF. Bacos received the National Order of the Legion of Honour, France's highest decoration. Additionally, the Israeli government recognized Bacos and his crew with medals for their heroic actions in refusing to leave the Jewish passengers behind. Bacos passed away in France in 2019 at the age of 95.

The Qatar Emiri Air Force operate 24 Pilatus Aircraft Ltd PC-21 advanced training aircraft. These 24 aircraft provide the primary and advanced training for all QEAF pilots prior to their operational conversion onto type. From the 2010s Qatar has committed to an extensive military expansion and modernisation program that has seen the Air Force grow from an inventory of 12 older combat aircraft and a few fighter trainers to a current inventory of over 60 modern multirole fighter aircraft, with another 60-plus on order. Modern attack helicopters and strategic and tactical airlift platforms round out the force, with aerial refueling platforms also on order. The point being, the Qatar Armed Forces is a well-equipped sovereign force, responsible for defence against external threats. Part of that investment includes the systems behind the platforms, such as the Pilatus Training System, and Ocean Software's FlightPRO. Systems that can generate effective combat capability as quickly as possible - providing better, safer, faster, stronger flight training and operations, with reduced risk. #pilottraining #airforce #aviation

Gulf Air is facing a capacity shortfall as two of its Boeing B787-9s are in maintenance without a known return date, CEO Jeffrey Goh said on the sidelines of the Bahrain International Airshow 2024 late last week.
