Michel Bacos was the captain of Air France Flight 139, which was hijacked and rerouted to Entebbe on June 27, 1976. On board were 240 passengers and 12 crew members when the flight took off from Tel Aviv. The hijackers released the non-Jewish hostages and offered to free Bacos and his crew, but Bacos, who was not Jewish, refused and stayed with the Jewish passengers until they were ultimately rescued by the IDF.
Bacos received the National Order of the Legion of Honour, France's highest decoration. Additionally, the Israeli government recognized Bacos and his crew with medals for their heroic actions in refusing to leave the Jewish passengers behind.
Bacos passed away in France in 2019 at the age of 95.

#Apartheid defined.
1940s: from Afrikaans, literally ‘separateness’, from Dutch apart ‘separate’ + -heid (equivalent of -hood).
Apartheid refers to the implementation and maintenance of a system of legalized racial segregation in which one racial group is deprived of political and civil rights.
The Apartheid (1948 to 1994) in South Africa was the racial segregation under the all-white government of South Africa, which dictated that non-white South Africans (a majority of the population) were required to live in separate areas from whites and use separate public facilities, and contact between the two groups would be limited. The different racial groups were physically separated according to their location, public facilities, and social life.
#Israel is VERY different from South Africa and as far from the concept of racial segregation as possible. In fact, in 1991, Israel airlifted/rescued Ethiopian Jews and brought them to Israel so that they could be integrated into Israeli society.
For an official analysis regarding Israel and apartheid: "Israel treats all of its citizens—be they Jew, Arab, or Druze—equally before the law, irrespective of any racial or ethnic differences. And, Israeli policies regarding application of military law, administrative detentions, defensive use of force, security check points, etc., in the “West Bank” and the Gaza Strip are all lawful security measures permitted under the Law of Armed Conflict. Accordingly, Israel’s actions are the very antithesis of apartheid, which should put to rest the apartheid lie once and for all."

In 1991, Israel airlifted more than 14,300 Ethiopian Jews in a series of 35 flights from Ethiopia to Israel as part of a secret rescue mission called Operation Solomon. The operation lasted 36 hours and was carried out from May 24th to May 25th. We remember this incredible and brave mission to bring Ethiopia's Jews home. 🇪🇹🇮🇱
Hamilton's Lancaster bomber, initially displayed as a war memorial in Goderich, Ontario from 1964 to the late 1970s, has been restored and will make a historic return flight on June 14th, exactly 60 years after its final flight. The aircraft, now part of the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum, underwent extensive restoration and is one of only two airworthy Lancasters in the world.

France is trying to block the Israeli pavilion at the Paris 2025 Airshow, a benchmark event for exhibiting new weapons systems. They claim to act in solidarity with Gaza, but really they trying to cut out the competition.
France is the 2nd largest arms exporter. Israel is no. 9 in global exports but the Abraham Accords have opened up new markets, like Morocco, where we have successfully beat out French bids.
We know the French appreciate our quality because Macron’s plane employs an air defense system sold by the Israeli Elbit.
Ever heard of a transatlantic flight?
When an airplane travels over the Atlantic Ocean to reach locations in North America, Latin America, or Europe from countries like Africa, South Asia, or the Middle East, it is referred to as a transatlantic trip.
A variety of aircraft, including balloons, airships, and fixed-wing aircraft, have made these flights. Transatlantic flights were initially beset by faulty aircraft engines, navigational issues over large waterways, and weather patterns that were erratic, particularly in the North Atlantic.
But since the middle of the 20th century, transatlantic flights have been commonplace for a variety of reasons, including political, military, and commercial ones, connecting continents and promoting international travel and trade.

Guardians of the Open Sea: Strength and Security in Maritime Trade
On the vast expanse of the open sea, a French warship sails steadily alongside a CMA CGM container vessel, providing steadfast escort and ensuring its safe passage. Against the serene backdrop of the horizon, the two vessels move in harmony, symbolizing the guardian and the guarded in a seamless partnership.
This scene underscores the critical importance of maritime security in global trade. While the container ship carries the hopes of international commerce, the warship acts as a shield, ensuring that goods reach their destinations unscathed. Such collaboration highlights the responsibility of naval forces and the indispensable role of safe seas in sustaining the global economy.
The French warship, with its commanding presence, stands as a symbol of power and commitment. It not only projects strength but also upholds the solemn promise of safeguarding peaceful navigation. Together, they represent a profound synergy between protection and progress, embodying the essence of modern maritime cooperation.

"More than a Mirage: UAE combat aircraft in China" (International Institute for Strategic Studies)
July 22, 2024 | Albert Vidal Ribé & Joseph Dempsey
"The United Arab Emirates (#UAE) Air Force and #China's People’s Liberation Army Air Force (#PLAAF) began Falcon Shield, their second exercise in China, on 10 July 2024. ... The joint air exercise was again being held in #Xinjiang province. ... Satellite imagery ... shows that #Hotan Airport in Xinjiang is being used. ... Deployments by the UAE (present) potential information-gathering opportunities ... to Beijing.
The 2023 and 2024 iterations of Falcon Shield have involved the UAE deploying at least six Dassault Mirage 2000-9DAD/EAD fighter ground-attack aircraft, supported by a single Airbus MRTT tanker/transport aircraft. Two Boeing C-17A Globemaster heavy transports were also briefly visible ... following the ... 2023 exercise, suggesting they were used for transporting supporting equipment and personnel. Falcon Shield 2024 included the addition of a temporary shelter often associated with ... #UAV operations."
"The presence of the Mirage 2000s raises the issue of Chinese access to Western military-aircraft. ... This type of aircraft is also operated by the #Taiwanese air force. Familiarisation with the Mirage 2000 and its performance and capabilities, as well as the possibility of dissimilar air-combat training, would be of value to the PLAAF."
"#Pakistan, China’s largest defence-export partner, now operates two front-line Chinese designs, the Chengdu JF-17 and the Chengdu J-10C. Islamabad’s airforce is a regular participant in international exercises, including Spears of Victory, held in #Saudi Arabia ... most recently (involving) #Bahrain, #France, #Greece, #Oman, #Pakistan, #Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, the United Kingdom and the #US. ... Such exercises provide the opportunity for Western aircraft to be operated alongside Chinese combat aircraft."
"PLAAF airborne early warning (#AEW) aircraft could be used to monitor the exercise, potentially providing further insights into the ability of Chinese AEW radar to detect the Mirage 2000. ... The seeker performance and detection range of the (Chinese) PL-10 (CH-AA-9) imaging infrared short-range air-to-air missile could be tested during any dissimilar air-to-air combat exercises."
"The relationship between the UAE Air Force and the PLAAF and China’s defence aerospace sector has developed in recent years. ... Broader ties between the UAE and China have caused concern in Washington, notably over the UAE’s 2019 choice of ... Huawei to provide the country’s 5G digital-communications architecture. The decision derailed UAE–US discussions over the former’s planned acquisition of the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II."
"Holding a joint exercise with the PLAAF in China is a stark way of underscoring to Washington the UAE’s level of independence, but so far it is an approach very few operators of US combat aircraft have taken."

Hi! Sharing another piece that was published by the International Institute for Strategic Studies earlier this week. This time, Joseph Dempsey and I examined the 🇦🇪 UAE Air Force's deployment in Xinjiang, on the occasion of the second edition of the 𝐹𝑎𝑙𝑐𝑜𝑛 𝑆ℎ𝑖𝑒𝑙𝑑 air exercise with 🇨🇳 China's PLA Air Force.
A few takeaways 👇
🔹 We found the 2024 edition of 𝐹𝑎𝑙𝑐𝑜𝑛 𝑆ℎ𝑖𝑒𝑙𝑑 is taking place in Hotan Airport, as happened last year. This had previously gone unreported, as far as we know.
🔹 The UAE has deployed at least 6 Dassault Mirage 2000 fighters, supported by an Airbus MRTT tanker/transport aircraft. Two C-17 heavy transports were briefly visible in 2023.
🔹 The Mirage 2000 is also operated by the Taiwanese air force. Familiarisation with its performance and capabilities would be of value to the PLAAF.
🔹 Being the host nation offers China the possibility of bringing other assets to bear to monitor the exercise, potentially providing useful insights of radar and seeker performance.

If you visit Ho Chi Minh City, you must not miss the Cu Chi Tunnels, located 70 km northwest of the city. The tunnels are an underground network stretching over 250 km, built from the late 1940s and expanded during the Vietnam War. This unique military structure showcases the ingenuity and resilience of the Vietnamese army.
During the war, the tunnels served as a hiding place and a strategic base, including living quarters, kitchens, hospitals, weapon storage, and meeting rooms. The sophisticated booby traps and ventilation systems allowed soldiers to live and fight underground for extended periods without being detected.
At Cu Chi Tunnels, guests can experience 𝐯𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 such as:
👉 Learn about the history of the Cu Chi Tunnels through a documentary film
👉 See the kitchen, living quarters, and meeting rooms. The tunnels have been enlarged for visitors, but you can imagine what it was like before
👉 Discover how different types of booby traps, symbols of guerrilla warfare, were created and set up
👉 See how ingenious Viet Cong soldiers made their weapons
👉 Try firing a real AK-47 at the shooting range (optional)
Come and experience the Cu Chi Tunnels to get a glimpse into the resilience and resourcefulness of the Vietnamese people during the war.
