How do molders change molds faster using Smartflow products? 1. Mold-mounted manifolds can make water hook-ups faster by permanently plumbing cooling lines to complex molds. Reduce connections to one supply and one return connection per mold half using Duoflow® manifolds. Duoflow® manifolds provide a smaller footprint that takes less space to install. 2. SWAP® Valves clear mold cooling lines between tool changes with a single valve handle motion. Installed in front of the water supply manifold, the valve allows unrestricted cooling water flow to the tool. By moving the handle to the Purge position, water supply is closed, and shop air is introduced, clearing cooling water lines quickly and cleanly. 3. FasTie® Quick Ejector Tie-In System connects press and tool ejector systems mechanically with a snap, and disconnects using shop air. Small presses with limited access to ejector systems benefit the most. Using the FasTie, tool change personnel can connect ejectors quickly with a minimum of manipulation, keeping hands out of tight spaces inside the machines. Before designing the gating system, a comprehensive analysis is needed, including factors like the type of plastic used, the geometry and dimensions of the part, the equipment, potential defects during injection, filling conditions, and parting surface selection. The gating system significantly impacts the quality of the mold, as it determines the material, heat, and pressure transfer within the cavity, which affects the internal and external quality of the part, the complexity of the molding process, efficiency, and the difficulty of mold design and manufacturing. Final Steps: From Curing to Shipping 📦✈ Here’s how we complete the process: 8. Demolding & Curing Once the polyurethane has solidified and reached a minimum strength, the mold is removed. The material, now solid, undergoes curing and/or post-curing to achieve its final properties. This involves conditioning at specific temperatures and times based on the PU type. 9. Finishing The product is perfected in the machining department. Rolls can be finished with cylindrical or crowned surfaces, various groove patterns, and specific surface roughness levels. 10. Packing & Control We conduct a final quality control and package the products appropriately. 11. Shipping The finished products are then shipped to our valued customers. ProTip: Injection moulded parts with vertical walls (and no draft angle) are prone to drag marks. Ensure you're including minimum draft angle of 2° in your design to avoid these errors. A good rule to go by is to increase the draft angle by one degree for every 25mm. For example, add a draft angle of 3 degrees to a feature that is 75mm tall - this will prevent imperfections in your moulded parts.
