Today marks the official First Day of Summer. For the next five weeks we'll be doing a series highlighting AHCH's theories of change. This week is: "Reach Out!" Outreach is central to what we do. And at AHCH we do outreach a little bit differently. After the pandemic, homelessness has nearly doubled in Albuquerque, in just one year! Yet the demand for healthcare services has stagnated. We know people need our help but have a lot of barriers to getting the help they need. That's why at AHCH, our Integrated Health Outreach teams BREAK down barriers to provide lifesaving, trauma-informed, multidisciplinary care. This week we'll learn more about outreach at AHCH and how we can work together to end homelessness. #FirstDayofSummer2024 #AHCH As always, if you believe in what we do and what we stand for, now is the time to stand for change. Donate here to save lives this summer: https://bit.ly/3VsOlvh

This photo (blurred deliberately) is people lining up in #Birmingham city centre yesterday for a hot meal. Across the UK, we not only have nearly 7500 #foodbanks (half run by charities and the other half by schools), but the 'soup kitchen' has returned as many people in temporary accommodation have no access to cooking facilities. A decent home is a fundamental human right, yet so many, through no fault evictions, loss of social housing and a chronic shortage of affordable private rental properties, find themselves on the street, invisibly homeless as sofa-surfers, or in unsatisfactory temporary accommodation. Many of these are 'working poor' who have no viable options. We must ensure everyone has access to a stable home as this underpins everything in a well-functioning society. #home #housing #socialhousing #healthandwellbeing #nutrition #mentalhealth #society #humanrights #privaterentedsector #nofaultevictions #temporaryaccommodation #homelessness #foodbanks #foodpoverty #workingpoor

Although the Haiti's turmoil has not reached Grand-Bois yet, in order to keep our operation going, we have had to find alternate means to get medications and supplies including importing from the US. This is extremely expensive since going to Port au Prince is no longer an option. Join us in our mission to bring hope through health. Key Initiatives of the "Health is Hope" Campaign: ~ Maternal and Child Health Programs ~ Chronic Disease Management ~ Community Health Education We believe that health is not just the absence of illness but the foundation of hope, dignity, and opportunity. Cayuga Health had an 8% annual increase on economic activity on the counties the health system serves, based on a recent report released by the Healthcare Association of New York State. This report highlights the critical role that healthcare facilities have in the local economies. In addition, Cayuga Health invested over $117M in community benefit in 2023, including charitable care provided to people in need; subsidized care and services to low-income, elderly and under-served communities; and continuous investment in many community health initiatives. Hygiene poverty impacts 1 in 3 American families, forcing them to go without basic hygiene essentials due to financial strain. For many, what's considered a daily necessity is a luxury they can't afford: - 73% of low-income households sacrifice food expenses to prioritize purchasing hygiene products. - 50% of low-income families express concern over meeting their children’s hygiene needs. - 33% of low-income families resort to bathing without soap due to financial constraints. YOU can make a tangible difference in our community by supporting our cause: downeyfcu.org/DFCUCares. Donate travel-sized hygiene items to the DFCU Branch. 🧼🧴🧽✨ *Source: tinyurl.com/DFCUSource

🍲Every Tuesday Night 🍲 At the Gurudwara (Sikh temple) we would make food for the homeless in East London. It was great community spirit, the need was there as the queues were always huge. And it felt good, To do something good. Until one day, I saw a young brown girl in the queue. Perhaps similar age, if not a tad older, than myself, late teens. "But why? Why is she homeless?" I questioned - And then my 15 year old eyes and mind broadened. "Why are they all homeless?" In organising, we call foodbanks/soup or curry kitchens type of community aid as "service delivery". And so many faith groups are great at this, feeding those in need. But we are not that great at asking the why. If we do ask the why, do we organise together and do we organise accross difference? Across different; faith, culture, age, ethnicity etc to make systemic change around the issue seems few and far between. (Inspired by Amanda Tattersall deep dive into organising accross difference). Archbishop Desmond Tutu said; "There is point we need to stop pulling people out of the river, go up stream, and find out why they are falling in" I enjoyed reading Jon Kuhrt Grace&Truth blog on "3 Sins of Social Action" and loved this quote when discussing Sin 1 'Charity without Justice'- "Dom Helder Camara, former Archbishop of Olinda and Recife, Brazil, famously said: “When I give bread to the poor they call me a saint. But when I ask why the poor are hungry, they call me a communist”. It captures the inescapable tension between charity and justice." It was great to talk about this tension with Matt Barker this week and look forward to working together. This is exactly what we want to do in Peterborough. If you're interested in researching why there is increasing homelessness or getting involved in Peterborough, please get in touch. #faithinorganising #organisinginfaith #communityorganising #homeless #reseach #organisingacrossdifference #peterborough #socialjustice
