UPSIDER Secures $104M in Series D Funding to Expand FinTech Innovations UPSIDER, a Tokyo-based FinTech startup, has successfully raised ¥15.4 billion (approximately USD 104 million) in Series D funding. This milestone includes ¥5.5 billion (USD 37 million) in equity financing and ¥9.9 billion (USD 67 million) in cumulative debt financing since early 2024. Key investors include Tencent, Global Brain, Japan Airlines, and SMBC Venture Capital. The funds will drive UPSIDER’s growth in existing services, such as its corporate card platform and payment solutions, and the development of AI-driven innovations like “UPSIDER Coworker.” Since its inception, the company has rapidly scaled, with over 60,000 corporate users and a payment volume exceeding ¥450 billion (USD 3 billion). This strategic move underscores UPSIDER’s mission to build a global financial platform that supports business innovators and accelerates corporate growth both domestically and internationally. (2024/8/13 NIKKEI) More and more cities in Japan are growing and maturing in the field of #open #innovation. They are expanding their effort to accelerate their #startup #ecosystem. So does #Yokohama. Focusing mainly (but not only) Green Transformation (GX) and mobility, a new innovation hub located in #Minatomirai (MM21) will start operation in November 2024 together with Yokohama Future Foundation, Venture Café Tokyo, its YOKOHAMA CONNECT team where genten LLC is involved and Mitsubishi Estate. The Minatomirai area in Yokohama is known for lots of R&D Centers and headquarters of global companies. Also the universities located close to this region bear a huge potential for bringing new deep tech startups into life. "We will use our manufacturing technology, from semiconductors to space, to make this a city of technology startups," says Deputy Mayor Hiroki Sato, who is promoting the project. Sea Soul - Technologies was one of the 10 selected to participate in the project OPENLABS NETWORK (https://lnkd.in/dh5C2_zG), a project from Interreg-POPTEC. It's an open network of industrial labs, for digital and sustainable transformation, of companies of the eco region of Galiza-North of Portugal. Labs of advanced processes for testing and developing innovative solutions. The goal is to give companies the tools for moving forward, towards digitization and sustainable development.
