Today is our Super Bowl for fireworks 💥 Two years ago my husband ventured into running three firework tents in Clarksville, TN. And even though they've been set up since June 22, 88% of his sales take place July 3-4. Here's what we've learned: ✅ People buy when they're ready ✅ If they didn't set up in advance, his sales would tank. Shoppers use that week and a half to shop prices at competing tents. ✅ Buyers will drive by that tent every day for two weeks without stopping, but that reminder is always there. This is brand awareness. This is necessary to get those sales on July 3-4. ✅ Buyers want EASY. My husband quickly learned that packaging up multiple items in a large grab bag is easier for the customer. They don't want to make decisions. They want help. ✅ Novelty items / kid items are an easy impulse buy and have the largest margins. ✅ Two weeks of your life takes the entire year to prepare for. From ordering tents, to buying generators, tables, securing locations, and shipping fireworks from China, it's a big operation. Happy Independence Day! Stay safe 🇺🇸

Can you put a price on this...? I can guide you on a journey about value to find out ⬇️ Around this time last year, I ran an antique pop-up store for 3 months as a side project. I had a bunch of old stuff, a vacant property to sell from and limited time to liquidate the items. My goal was more focused on time than it was on profit. This 1950's Connor washer was part of that project. Washers like this were impossible to find locally and listed on eBay for $1800. It also was hard to maneuver, discolored and had electrical issues. I landed on listing it for $400. Some people LOVED it and were willing to pay the sticker price... but didn't have means to transport it. Others could pick it up within the hour but wanted to pay the lowest amount possible because it was scrap metal to them. I stalled on selling the washer and after a few weeks, the value of the washer shifted for me. I started to care less about how much I was selling it for and more about getting rid of it within the window of time I had. The right person came at the right time and I ended up selling it for $50. This brings me to the great conversation I had yesterday with my pal Douglas about value. He reminded me that "value" means different things to different people. It's also circumstantial. I am not telling this story because I want to let everyone know I understand what "value" is, or because I sold a washer for less than I thought I could. I'm sharing because someone might need to hear what this story actually means today. There is so much noise on LinkedIn about proving your value to get ahead. Yet most of us are already are so critical of ourselves. Yes - in business, we absolutely SHOULD know how to prove our value and strive to improve. But as people - we NEED to step back and realize what we have to offer is very much enough. The right circumstance and opportunity that works for you just when you need it WILL come. A little Monday Math! Too early? Grab some coffee! Most of our key & leash holders come in 2 sizes: 6 inch wide and 9 inch wide. If we priced products solely on material usage, the 9 inch would be more than double the cost of the 6 inch. Say what? 9 inch is only 50% larger than 6 inch, right? Well, for a straight line, yes it is. But we have height to consider too. If we only increase the width, this miniature schnauzer dog would be stretched out wide and still only same height! That would be crazy! So we have to make it taller too. At 6", it is 6.4" tall, so that's around 39 in square. At 9", it is 9.5" tall, which is aprox 95 in square. In actual fact, it's around 2.5 times more material! If a 6 inch key rack is $12, then customers expect 9 inch key rack to be $18, which in fact, if we went by material alone, it would be $28. We do consider other factors though and that would put the 9 inch piece at $21 - $22. 👍 If you knew this all along! ❤️ If you learned something today! 😮 If that confused you more!

It’s a wash out! The Great British weather is living up to its name in style this year. Despite the warmest May for many years it’s been horrendously wet! There is a clear correlation between weather and sales patterns. In more obvious scenarios the sale of lolly ices (not ice lollies- I’m northern!) increases as the sun shows its face. Just as the sale of blankets rises in cooler months. Keeping ahead of the game by knowing your products and the impact the weather can have on their sales means you can anticipate customer behaviour and adjust stock levels, promotional activity (on and off line) and even staffing to ensure cost efficiency. #customerbehaviour #shopperinsight #greatbritishsummertime #stockup #promotions #staffing
