One of the key factors you must master when rapidly growing a company or organization is team development. We started tracking this metric in 2023 and it has been rewarding to see how many hours we put into this bucket. This number calculates to over $600,000 invested in 2024 so far. That’s on track for over $1,000,000 in training investment for the year. This is not a “cost” but an “investment” on our P&L.

Tell me if this sounds familiar.... Someone in your team behaves badly. Which one of these things do you do in response: ➢ Plan and have a conversation, albeit difficult, with the person, explaining why their behaviour is not acceptable? ➢ Have a conversation with the whole team, explaining that this type of behaviour is not acceptable, and hope the person picks up on the message? ➢ Leave it for now and hope it was just a ‘once off’? ➢ Send this person some links to professional development courses? Sending this person on a course is unlikely to shift anything without your involvement. But here’s the real question: ➢ Are you addressing the behaviour in a way that solves the issue—or just moving the problem around? ➢ Managing a team comes with its share of uncomfortable responsibilities. No one enjoys pointing out another adult’s problematic behaviour. But it’s part of the role, and how you handle it matters. So…what will you do next time?

𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠! 1. Keep educating yourself 2. Keep testing your new capabilities and opened doors every couple of months 3. Ask for your mentor’s feedback regularly and put a personal plan upon it 4. Don’t fill your to do list with long-term plans! ( One HUGE long term plan + many short ones ) 5. Don’t go out every weekend and don’t study every weekend as well ( BALANCE ) 6. Self development scoring quarterly is a must. Open your eyes on what you have gone above and beyond in and focus on what you did not the next quarter

The key to a thriving team is knowing the difference between training and alignment. Too often, teams are trained to do things they don’t naturally excel at. That’s the key problem. You can give someone all the training in the world, but if their natural abilities don’t align with their role, they won’t perform at their best. On the other hand, when you align a person’s natural strengths with their role, training becomes easier and more effective. They’ll be more productive, more engaged, and more fulfilled. Focus on alignment first, and training will do the rest.
