The Atlantic handy market saw another balanced week with no significant changes, while last week saw Atlantic Supras ascending to year highs, buoyed by strong cargo flows. Pacific handies saw positive developments with increased cargo inquiries from Australia and Southeast Asia leading to a slight uptick in rates. Watermellon season is up for grabs. Just had one broker quote some freight not watermellons from FL to TN 3 months project at 1.20$ a mile saying he got carriers doing them 1.10$. We quoted way way way higher than that with just basic knowledge of market. Capacity gets tight , rates go high. Weather has been great this year meaning there will be more watermellons than ever. Looking forward to this customer reaching out to us in a few weeks. When this brokers carrier goes MIA and he returns the freight. IMO - carriers doing rates like 1.10$ a mile even as a back haul is not good. This is no longer 2014 prices went up 150% on everything and you still want your back haul to be done at that rate. The job of a reefer only gets harder in the summertime, meaning the fleets and shops should give them a bit more TLC. “Check [the] refrigerant levels to ensure that they are adequate and that there are no leaks in the units, as low refrigerant levels can reduce cooling efficiency and cause the unit to overwork,” said Edward Goh, senior director of Strategy and Services, Global Container Refrigeration, Carrier Transicold Truck Trailer Refrigeration. Tsamouris, the Fastener Specialists© In June 2016, a broken bolt sent a Union Pacific train carrying volatile crude oil hurtling off the tracks in the Columbia River Gorge, spilling 42,000 gallons (158,987 liters) and forcing the evacuation of the nearby town of Mosier, Oregon, 🇺🇸 United States. The accident was caused by at least one broken bolt holding the rail in place, according to a report filed by the company with the U.S. Federal Railroad Administration. The broken bolt, which is unique to curved sections of track, failed despite the train traveling at 26 mph (42 km/h) in a 30 mph (48 km/h) zone. Following the accident, Union Pacific checked similar bolts in curved sections of its 32,000 mi (51,499 km) of track across 23 states. The company also replaced bolts in the derailment area with heavier duty ones and increased inspections in the Columbia River Gorge from once every 18 months to four times a year. The derailment, which caused no injuries, raised concerns about the risks associated with transporting crude oil by rail.
