We estimate that the volume of seaborne traded dry bulk cargoes in Q1 2024 across all #drybulk vessel classes was higher by about 7.33% compared to Q1 2023, and Q1 2024 dry bulk seaborne traded cargo volumes represented about 111.97% of their last five years' (2019-2023) Q1 average. The Cargo ship crashing into the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore has come as quite a shocking disaster. Our thoughts are with those affected directly and indirectly. Personally, I had to watch this about 5 times to believe it was real. For our business here at Customs Brokers Pty Ltd we partner well with our US agent and if any of our cargo is affected they are acting as necessary we are grateful for their support. In the US news it is reported that more than 800 cargo vessels have been impacted, and we can safely predict freight rates are likely to spike due to the news of the tragedy and closures. This could cause congestion at surrounding ports including, but not limited to: Norfolk, Virginia; Newark, New Jersey; and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
