At the Transportation Research Group (TRG), we're committed to advancing research that drives the transition to sustainable, low-carbon transport systems. Our innovative work covers wide sustainable areas, from green transport policies and electric vehicles to sustainable urban mobility solutions. With over 50 years of pioneering research, we focus on solving key transportation challenges while improving environmental performance and accessibility. Our projects explore everything from sustainable transport infrastructure to smart mobility solutions that can help create greener cities for all. We have signed the Antwerp Declaration for a European Industrial Deal. Because we at Santiago and adago believe that we need industrial production in Europe. And that, given the current state of many industries, a new business case for investment is needed.   > We want to support site development, instead of closure. > And we want to make progress on the green transition, rather than just shutting down energy-intensive production. A European Industrial Deal, complementing the Green Deal, is needed for a sustainable future in every sense of the word.   Therefore, the declaration calls to EU Member State Governments, the next European Commission and Parliament to:   1) Put the Industrial Deal at the core of the new European Strategic Agenda for 2024-2029.   2) Include a strong public funding chapter with a Clean Tech Deployment Fund.   3) Make Europe a globally competitive provider of energy.   4) Focus on the infrastructure Europe needs.   5) Increase the EU’s raw materials security.   6) Boost demand for net zero, low carbon and circular products.   7) Leverage, enforce, revive and improve the Single Market.   8) Make the innovation framework smarter.   9) A new spirit of law-making.   10) Ensure the structure allows to achieve results.   “𝘞𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘺 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘪𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘤𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘪𝘵𝘺. #Europe as an industrial location is unique and worth preserving. For adago and Santiago Advisors as European companies, a healthy domestic economy is essential for our existence. For all of us as human beings, it is an important building block for a sustainable future. That is why we have signed the Antwerp Declaration to send a signal for Europe, for the #IndustrialDeal and for a #green #transformation. Positive impulses, such as consistent and accelerated de-bureaucratization, are important to break the negative spiral that is currently building up: poor sentiment, declining consumption, diminishing investment. Individual, national efforts will only be successful if we as a region succeed in making Europe an attractive place to do business. If we keep our borders open while focusing on the common interests of our countries, I am convinced that we will all benefit. Let’s keep working on our future together.

Need for enhanced cooperation on sustainable transport A new report commissioned by the Nordic Council of Ministers clarifies the urgency of improved transport cooperation in the Nordics. Putting innovation at the centre, the report calls for increased Nordic cooperation on research and technological advances, particularly in green mobility. Projects involving the development of electric aircraft and autonomous transport systems are highlighted as key components in reducing the Nordic region's carbon footprint. How can we put these recommendations into practice? Precisely the topics raised in the report will be addressed at Nordic Energy Research's Nordic Green Transport Forum on 7 May in Gothenburg, Sweden! Last week Maurice Jansen -senior researcher and business developer at Erasmus UPT and co-founder of the LDE Centre PortCityFutures- joined us at the Circular Industries Talks. He depicted the complexity of ports ecosystems and explained that, despite the challenges faced by ports to expand and remain competitive on a rapidly changing market, ports can actively contribute to positive change of their environment. 🚢   ❗️Take-aways: 🌎 Ports and port cities have the unique ability to create the conditions for society to prosper. But the growth of a port and port city comes at a cost. The ultimate challenge for port cities is to address their planetary boundaries. This is where ecosystems services are at risk. The carrying capacity of the ecosystem to support human activities in port cities is reaching its limits. 🔄 There needs to be more emphasis on regeneration of the ecosystem. Regeneration puts life at the heart of every action and decision. This includes human life, both on land, as well as at sea and below sea level. Regeneration emphasises the vital connections between ports and cities, and between people and their surroundings, that need to be restored. This disconnect is at the root of a myriad of problems. 💡 We need to be working on the ‘blue opportunities’ and move from compensation to regeneration. Future research on ecosystem service assessments should address the key challenges. A deeper understanding of marine ecosystems, human-ecosystem interactions, stakeholder engagement is required to enable and make informed decisions on the opportunities and risks associated.    🌐 Curious about Maurice’s Talk? Scania Group has extended its partnership with KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Region Stockholm at the Integrated Transport Research Lab (ITRL). The lab's primary goal is to lead the transition to a sustainable transport ecosystem, emphasising innovation, resilience, inclusivity, and sustainability in transportation solutions. Over the past decade, ITRL – Integrated Transport Research Lab (KTH) has been at the forefront of sustainable transport research, achieving significant milestones: • Completed 75 academic-industry research projects • Launched 28 ongoing research initiatives • Developed innovative solutions for integrated transport systems • Strengthened public-private collaboration • Addressed both technical and societal dimensions in sustainable transport As we enter the next phase of ITRL 2.0, we are excited to advance our journey towards a sustainable, inclusive, and efficient transport ecosystem. Sara Forsberg, our Chief Technical Officer, highlights the significance of this collaboration: “The launch of ITRL 2.0 represents a significant step in our journey towards a sustainable transport system. By leveraging the insights and strengths we’ve developed over the past decade, and with a renewed focus and enhanced organisation, we are prepared to make a greater impact through our research. The true power of ITRL lies in its interdisciplinary, public-private partnership. By uniting diverse actors and expertise, we are able to generate new knowledge and co-create innovative solutions that address the complex challenges of transforming our transport system.”
