Yesterday I went to the incredibly interesting event "NEXT TEXTILE 2024 – Innovation Inspiration" in the textile capital of Sweden Borås. The topic was largely about ESG “but from a perspective of opportunities and not problems” where literally the core focus was on digitalization. Because the answer to challenges regarding data (data, data, and more data) is digital tools which help you manage this data. For a person like myself, that works with digitalization for the fashion and apparel industry, it was incredibly cool that every speaker, be it from a brand or not, was asked “which digital tools do you use to transform your brand into a greener one?” I learned that many brands still (!) use Excel to handle all this data, and that this curbs their creativity and eats a lot of their time. So I took the learnings from this event as a challenge to try and help these brands. Of course creatives and designers shouldn't spend their time mass-gathering data in Excel - they should use their strengths (their creative skills) on doing what they do best, and let digital tools do what they do best, which is mass aggregation and handling of data. It feels good to represent Delogue PLM after this event and to know that we sit on a solution that could help many of these brands solve some of their biggest challenges regarding ESG and data handling. That's the boost I needed today!

There’s so much to be done on sustainability and circularity data sharing and analysis, the challenge being each company has its own part of the puzzle, This article by Quantis gives a good précis of the opportunities at multiple levels , the focus is on fashion. At Calon we’re creating what we call the analytics operating system for consumer goods companies. The data in your systems can unlock incredible stories about all your customers, distributors, products and suppliers. Instead of your spending hours trying to understand this, manually moving data around Excel in order to understand what is profitable, which SKUs you’re losing money on, which customers are over-discounted and so on, all this is automated. It’s an online solution that brings all your important data and KPIs together in one place from all your systems and has configurable dashboards and business rules so we speak your language. There’s another thing though - its not just your own business. You can also share data up and down your supply network and with your customers, securely. Making sustainability insights (and compliance) actually feasible. Are you with a consumer product/supply chain company and would like to try this out with your suppliers as well as having leading practice customer, product, pricing and financial analytics? Drop me a note in the comments or a DM please! #datastrategy #sustainability #circulareconomy #datasharing #consumerbrands

Fast fashion may look good, but its hidden price tag? 700 gallons of water for a T-shirt, microplastics in oceans, and decades in landfills. Stanford University Graduate School of Business's Value Chain Innovation Initiative dives into the real cost of our wardrobe and how we can do better. In a new white paper, Barchi (Becky) Gillai, Hau Lee, Jessica Landzberg (MBA ’23), and Nina Sabharwal (MBA ’23) examine the production processes, impacts, and potential solutions for three everyday materials: polyester, cotton, and leather. #Sustainability https://lnkd.in/gRdHT7TU

I worry about the struggles of fashion sustainability teams right now 📊 Sustainability shouldn’t feel like decoding a puzzle. Imagine the struggle you must go through to collect, decipher, and leverage supplier data year after year! Meet Emily, a sustainability analyst, who spends hours untangling Higg FEM reports—only to face errors, endless spreadsheets, and unclear insights. ⚠️ The Key Challenges: 1. Manual Effort: Downloading, cleaning, and analyzing data is tedious and error-prone. 2. Data Quality Issues: One of Emily's colleague shared, “Units are off by 1,000s in some places… Data quality is a massive issue.” 3. Lack of Actionable Insights: Metrics often lack real-world relevance. Another colleague said, “Give me simple metrics that translate into water usage or energy management actions.” 4. Limited Scope: Higg FEM data is focused on facilities but lacks easy translation to product-level assessments critical for accurate footprints. To unlock its full potential, brands need advanced AI tools that automate these processes, improve data quality, and provide clear, actionable insights. Only by transforming data into clarity, we can turn sustainability metrics into meaningful action. What’s your biggest challenge with sustainability data? Let’s discuss! #SustainableFashion #HiggFEM #DataDrivenSustainability #ClimateAction #CircularEconomy #FashionInnovation #Scope3

Key Insights from an AI Workshop in Fashion: Recently, I had the chance to participate in the A Generative AI-Assisted Workshop: Collaborating for Sustainability in the Textile and Fashion Industry held by Imperial College Business School. We’re all aware of the sustainability challenges in the fashion industry, but there’s still so much more to discuss! During the workshop, we tackled key challenges faced by both consumers and producers with insights from experts. Here’s a summary of those discussions: Lack of trust in certification labels on products Pricing challenges The gap between consumers and producers Consumer communication Marketing aspects: No clear definition of sustainability Transparency in social and environmental impacts across the value chain Fair distribution of value creation along the value chain Reducing overproduction's impact on suppliers in emerging markets Profitability challenges for producers Several key challenges identified by AI during our discussions included: Overproduction and overconsumption Traceability and transparency across the supply chain Circularity and waste management Social sustainability and labor practices There was a strong focus on the role of regulations: having rules for producers to ensure sustainability. Regulation can create a standard and foster positive practices through strong incentives. The question that remained from the discussion: What makes fashion so complex? It’s because it brings together so many different aspects, and that’s why there isn’t a single formula to solve its sustainability problems. Let me know what do you think and add your opinion! Joining a new environment often brings fresh connections and opens up doors to more opportunities. Thank you from my colleague Jess Maina for bringing this chance. #AI #sustainability #textile #fashion #tessile #lamoda #پایداری #مد #نساجی
