**PhD Vacancy: Global Health Economics** More than a billion people annually incur catastrophic health expenditures or forego necessary care, most of them living in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Especially in LMICs, ensuring affordable and good quality health care for all is a persistent challenge for health policy that has largely remained unsolved. Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management (ESHPM) is making substantial investments in Global Health research and teaching, including this PhD opportunity. The school is specifically strengthening its work on health system reform in the Global South. This PhD project aims to fill some of that gap using multidisciplinary insights from health economics and health systems research. I am honored to share that I have successfully completed a fellowship program in Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR), offered by the HTA Office under the guidance of Dr. Gihan Hamdy Elsisi, Msc, PhD , in collaboration with ISPOR. 🎓 Excited to announce my graduation! 🎓 I am excited to share that I have completed my European Masters degree in Health Economics and Management, achieving an A for my thesis! My thesis, which I defended last week, was a qualitative study exploring the attitudes of Flemish healthcare providers towards end-of-life decisions in minors. This research journey has been incredibly insightful and rewarding, highlighting crucial perspectives in healthcare. Key learnings include the importance of advanced care planning for clear, patient-centered care and the need for better evaluation, standardization, and resources in pediatric palliative care. I am deeply thankful for the support and guidance from my supervisor Lukas Kerschbaumer, colleagues, and everyone who contributed to this accomplishment. I look forward to applying the knowledge and skills I've gained to make meaningful contributions in the field of health economics and management. What future skills do medicine students acquire and need? We asked German professors which future skills they promote in their lectures and which future skills are important for the future worklife of students. The percentages indicate the answers "strong/very strong" (5 scales), so the distance shows the gap between what really happens and what is important. For example, the ability to make assessments is seen as important by 93% of the medicine professors, and 80 % of the professors take this into account. A typical skill for doctors, which seems to be covered well. The largest gaps could be found for the following skills: resilience, intercultural communication, dialogue and conflict competencies. Looking at the realities of the German health system, the recently rising importance of these skills is highly plausible. How to close the gap? Not every professor of course should cover every future skill individually. The academics designing a curriculum should jointly reflect how they could incorporate different relevant future skills in a balanced way throughout the study programme. For future doctors, there should definitely be a place to foster resilience. And maybe there should also be more focus on digital ethics (almost at the end of the list of importance), isn't that crucial especially for medicine?
