I'm thrilled to announce the release of the new National Standard of Canada, CSA R117:24, Plastics Recycling: Definitions, Reporting, and Measuring. This standard emerged from extensive collaboration with technical experts who identified critical gaps in how we define and measure plastics recycling across Canada. Without consistent terminology and metrics, stakeholders from municipalities to manufacturers have faced challenges in accurately assessing recycling performance and setting meaningful targets. CSA R117:24 provides a technical framework that enables: · Standardized terminology across the recycling value chain · Consistent measurement protocols for recycling rates · Clear guidelines for performance reporting and verification Sincere appreciation to the technical committee members who contributed their expertise to developing this important resource for Canada's circular economy and for progressing the important issue forward. Don't forget to check out the webinar on this tomorrow: https://lnkd.in/gBXSF-Aj #Sustainability #PlasticsRecycling #CircularEconomy #Standards #WasteManagement Canadian Standards Association Alex Devonish, Avery Gottfried P.Eng., Blaire Gaalaas, Calvin Lakhan, Ph.D, Catherine Abel, Chris van Rossem, PhD, Christina Seidel, David Lynch, Guy West, Hélène Gervais, Jo-Anne St. Godard, Laurence Yang, Neil Savio Menezes, Pooneh Saheli, Ph.D., P.Eng., Richard Berkenbosch, Sam Baker, Sarah Edwards, Tessa Vlaanderen, Tonny Wong, Tu Van Duong, Zackery Chan
A clear definition of plastics recycling can help establish consistent use, understanding, and measurement of when the waste stream is deemed ‘recycled’. This is important to both policymakers seeking to achieve specific environmental outcomes associated with recycling and the regulated community that must deliver them. A clear definition of plastics recycling can also help the plastics recycling sector determine a supply chain design and infrastructure investments needed to advance a circular economy for plastics in Canada. The new standard CSA R117:24, Plastics recycling: Definitions, reporting, and measuring, addresses this need by providing a common framework for defining plastics recycling in Canada: https://bit.ly/3Z2gpYm

We are incredibly proud to announce that Delve Recycled is one of the recipients of Phase 3 funding from the BC Government’s Plastics Action Fund! Thanks to this funding from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC), we’re upgrading our equipment to make our small-scale recycling operation in rural BC much more efficient. This is a huge step forward for us as we move from our beloved pizza oven and hand tools to a high(er)-tech workflow. Our new equipment is on order and set to arrive before the end of the year—we hope to start testing in January! We’re absolutely thrilled to share this milestone with you and deeply grateful for the opportunity to scale our impact. A huge thanks to the MOECC and the amazing staff at Alacrity Canada for supporting Delve Recycled and believing in our vision for sustainable, small-scale action. We will be sharing as we go. If you have ideas for us, want to close the loop on your plastic stream, are curious about a tour, or generally want to learn more - send us an email: info@delverecycled.ca
