Today, we honor St. Thomas Becket, our namesake, and the Archbishop of Canterbury. His courage at the intersection of church and state inspired our mission to defend religious freedom for all.

"I have said that science is impossible without faith. But this I do not mean that faith on which science depends depends is religion in nature or involves the acceptance of any of the dogmas of the ordinary religious creed, yet without faith that nature is subject to law there can be no science. No amount of demonstration can ever prove that nature is subject to law. For all we know, the world from the next moment on might be something like the croquet game in Alice in Wonderland, where the balls are hedgehogs which walk off, the hoops are soldiers who march to other parts of the field to other parts of the field to other parts of the field, the rules of the game are made from instance to instance by the arbitrary decree of the Queen. It is to a world like this that the scientist must conform in totalitarian countries, no matter whether they be those on the right or of the left. The Marxist Queen is very arbitrary indeed, and the fascist Queen is a good match for her." #History On January 1, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, declaring that all people being held as slaves would henceforth be free. Two years later, on January 31, 1865, the 13th Amendment was passed by Congress. Yet, it wasn’t until June 19, 1865, that Union soldiers finally arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas, with the long-awaited news of freedom. This day, now celebrated as #Juneteenth, also known as Jubilee Day, commemorates the emancipation of African American slaves. While we celebrate this monumental day, it’s important to recognize that June 19th, 1865, was not the day that all slaves were freed. As a national organization, Latina Professionals represents a diverse range of voices, identities, and experiences. This Juneteenth, we urge you to learn more about the history and support our Black Native relatives. A white settler on stolen Indigenous land gives a speech on the validity of another violent white supremacist colonizer ideology. If y’all weren’t so naive, it wouldn’t really be that shocking, to be honest. "In a country like Canada, it should be and it must be, safe to declare oneself a Zionist - Jewish or not. Zionism is not a dirty word or something anyone should be targeted for agreeing with.” - @JustinTrudeau Zionism IS a dirty word, but for the leader of “a country like Canada” that is built on the graves of Indigenous children to say this with such clarity and ease makes complete sense. A dirty settler colonial nation built through violent white supremacy will of course support another one. When they say “let me be clear”, we really should appreciate how clear they are being with their racism. Zionism is to Palestine what white supremacy has always been and continues to be for the Indigenous peoples of this land. Put that in your land acknowledgment, @JustinTrudeau.

“I would argue that religious liberty is on the ballot in the November election. Look carefully at the candidates for United States Senate in Missouri and the presidential candidates. Be certain that you are not voting for candidates whose values align with white Christian nationalism. “Because of religious liberty, people of all faiths came to America and practices of faith flourished throughout American history. It is true, there is an ebb and flow. Perhaps we are becoming more secular as a society. But that is not because of government policy. It is because of people’s choices. In other words, religious liberty at work. I want to live in an America where I can choose to practice my own faith. I’m a little ambivalent about the idea of someone having no faith, because I’m not sure there is such a thing. What we generally mean by “no faith” is no affiliation with organized religion. I suspect that everyone has some expression of personal faith. We’d be suicidal otherwise. But I’m referring to small “f” faith, not big “F” Faith. White Christian nationalists breed on fear. They want a privileged place in America because they feel sidelined in a multiracial, multifaith society. They haven’t learned how to live with diversity, let alone cherish it. They want to live in a racial silo, hanging out with their own kind. Hence, “white.” Hence, their partisan objection to diversity, equity and inclusion.” #christian #nationalism #founding #fathers #religious #liberty #government #policy #elections #dei https://lnkd.in/gJYESKGH

"Our biggest mistake is our failure to make Christianity and democracy as meaningful for the Negro as it is for the white. The most insidious form of subversive activity in this country is not that of the communists but that done by those who wrap themselves in the American flag and give the lie to American freedom." — Fr. Louis J. Twomey, S.J., May 20, 1962. Visit my Kickstarter to learn more about this amazing Jesuit and support the biography I am writing of him: https://lnkd.in/egu2PR6n .

In this episode of Faithful Politics, hosts Will and Pastor Josh invited Congressman Jared Huffman to explore themes of religious liberty, Christian nationalism, and the role of religion in politics. Congressman Huffman, representing California's second congressional district, delves into his work with the Congressional Freethought Caucus (not forethought, lol), emphasizing its dedication to upholding the separation of church and state and combating discrimination against religious minorities and non-believers. The discussion illuminates the challenges posed by Christian nationalism, highlighting its influence on events like the Jan. 6 insurrection and its implications for religious liberty in the United States. https://lnkd.in/e4Suiq84

Pastor Tunde Bakare said that the revolution must start from the churches and mosques because the religious leaders are complicit with the political leaders and control the hearts and minds of their members. He said that the people should rise up and stone these religious leaders including him. Watch.
