Ronald Lu & Partners and Behave are pioneers in sustainable, life-centric designs. As we work to implement future-focused strategies to combat emerging climate challenges, our architects exchange valuable green building insights with our peers in the hopes of propelling the industry towards a more sustainable future. MK Leung, RLP Asia’s Director of Sustainable Design and Behave’s Principal Behaviourist, was a guest speaker in the “Sustainable Construction Reimagined: Tackling Scope 3 Emissions” session at Hilti Group Hong Kong’s The Future of Construction Forum. MK highlighted RLP Asia’s Science Based Targets initiative Scope 3 emissions reduction efforts, particularly project design measures like structural optimisation, the use of regional materials, automatic refuse collection, waste management and sorting systems, on-site food waste decomposers, and glass crushers. The Future of Construction Forum by Hilti Hong Kong featured a series of panel discussions covering topics such as construction digitalisation, job-site automation, and sustainable construction. A #circular built environment (CBE) involves three core elements: - the adaptive reuse of existing buildings - the adaptive design of new buildings, and - the reuse of materials. These elements can help future-proof the built environment, create more affordable, low-cost infrastructure, and contribute to a more resilient and sustainable natural environment. However, changing general business practices in the construction industry can be extremely challenging. Read the CSA Group research report https://bit.ly/4bx8041 to learn more about a strategic framework for action that can help mobilize the industry by demonstrating the tangible opportunities and benefits of CBE Tima Bansal, Liz Miller, Carly MacArthur, Innovation North

Great to see how JTC has initiated the debate on #adaptivereuse and #urbantransformation strategies through the rejuvenation of inner city industrial estates. A much needed game changer for Singapore. Here is where Singaporean #urbanplanning practice can learn from #Switzerland where inward densification is being pioneered in all its complexity.
As Singapore's #manufacturing landscape evolves, the need for dynamic and innovative master planning and adaptive reuse strategies becomes increasingly important. What will the future hold? As we all now know... Manufacturing is cool again! This project - one of my top favourites - was about visioning and reimagining #Yishun's #manufacturing and #innovation district, deeply embedded in the community and rooted in history and identity, not only of its own but also the neighbourhood it sits in. - The challenge wasn't just about attracting and retaining talent in the district but developing a plan to involve the residents, the schools, and the parks to help build that future together. - It was about developing a 'Phase Zero' #programming and #placemaking strategy for a manufacturing district! (who would have thought in 20th century that we would do public engagement and placemaking strategies for manufacturing hubs!) - It was about designing a beautiful #nature focused masterplan that #naturalised the canal, stitched the neighbourhood park and enhanced the #biodiversity paying its deep respects to the nature reserve sitting right next to it. - It was about developing new flexible industrial #typologies that could truly 'make', 'live' and celebrate next to each other. But it was equally about #retrofitting and #reusing some of the iconic buildings that sit in there - either as beautiful canal homes or as public & innovation hubs. This is truly the future of #UrbanManufacturing! (and it makes my even prouder that it became an award winning project at this year's Singapore Institute of Planners awards) with an excellent global team that worked on it Jaime Traspaderne Shruti Shah Andrew Reynolds Vinicius Gaio de Siqueira Nille Juul-Sorensen Malcolm Smith and many more. 💡 How can carbon footprint of construction be reduced by 60% compared to conventional building methods? 👉 Join us on October 23rd for an in-depth exploration of the innovative K.118 Project to find out! ♻️ This pioneering #circularconstruction project, which won the Holcim Foundation Award in 2021, sets a new example for eco-friendly development. Built on a former industrial site, K.118 shows how reusing structures and materials can significantly lower carbon emissions while maintaining a high standards of design and functionality. 🙌 We're excited to host Barbara Buser from baubüro in situ ag in situ, a key figure behind this 12-year project, developed in collaboration with Stiftung Abendrot. Barbara will share her insights on how the team mimized the use of new materials, retrofitted, and applied circular economy principles, along with lessons learned along the way. Moderated by Saba Carmel Meidany of the Holcim Foundation for Sustainable Construction & ULI NEXT Switzerland and Rainer Marti of ULI NEXT Switzerland, this conversation promises to delve deep into the #sustainable practices that can transform the construction industry. From material reuse to #energy-efficient #buildingtechniques, we'll examine the strategies used in the K.118 Project and how they can serve as a #blueprint for future developments. ❗ Don't miss this opportunity to engage in a dynamic discussion about shaping the future of sustainable construction! 👉 More Info & Registration: https://lnkd.in/e8PAgpFX
