🚨 Suggested policy improvements to safeguard investor confidence and the integrity of our capital markets As the election season approaches, it’s a pivotal time not just for reflection but for visionary planning. A critical issue requiring our united focus is the fortification of investor confidence and the robustness of our capital markets. The unraveling of the Nyrstar saga has laid bare some deep-seated vulnerabilities within our corporate governance and legal infrastructures. Despite lengthy efforts and investigations, current safeguards for minority shareholders and mechanisms for corporate accountability fall short. Therefore, as professionals dedicated to the prosperity and integrity of Belgium's economy, we rally for comprehensive reforms. This has been the driving force behind our group's proactive outreach to Belgian politicians with concrete recommendations to restore the trust in our capital markets and legal systems. #CorporateGovernance #InvestorProtection #Nyrstar #Consciouscapitalism Dutch version: https://lnkd.in/ez9dsMZp French version: https://lnkd.in/et8iccKD

📣believe it or not: #ViDA seems to be moving ahead on 5 November 2024 at the next #ECOFIN meeting! The Dutch Ministry of Finance today released a letter indicating that it's on the agenda and at first glance it seems the 2027/2030/2035 entry-into-force/transition dates will not be pushed back further. Other notable updates: 🎤 for #ereporting access to data will be restricted from a data security perspective 🎤 for the #platform fiction, there will be some flexibility in terms of whether or not a rental qualifies as short term #accommodation rental and #EU Member States get the possibility for an opt-out of #SMEs qualifying for the small entrepreneurs exemption 🎤 the Netherlands was in favour of more harmonisation but is happy with the overall ViDA-package and supportive of the latest changes Watch this space for updates and mark Tuesday 5 November in your diaries! #VATintheDigitalAge #ereporting #onestopshop #singleVATregistration #platforms #deemedsupplier https://lnkd.in/eCXaK63C

Celebrating the first cohort of ODA Board Network started in Oslo this week. From January 1, 2024, there is a requirement for #genderbalance in Norwegian AS (limited liability company) boards. The legislation covers about 8,000 companies in 2024 and will be expanded annually. Numerous companies will have to make changes in their #board composition, and Norwegian companies will have to recruit almost 13,000 new board members by 2028. Who will fill these positions, and how will companies find the right candidates for the right phase of their business? We are proud partner of the ODA-Nettverk and the ODA Board Network. Supporting the transformation. #transformation

📧 Dear Sweden (part 2). We're still not done talking about #CSDDD. Tomorrow, 8 March, is another crucial moment for EU ambassadors in COREPER I to vote on the long-awaited EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive. As the only country reportedly positioned as a hard-NO, you must have relished what's been happening these last couple of weeks, with Germany's FDP, France and other member states holding workers and communities hostage in what can only be described as an *unprecedented political coup*. ❌ Now playtime is over. It's time to move on. 🗒 Yesterday, media reported that the Belgian Presidency has been working towards a new compromise which addresses your concerns: https://lnkd.in/dEsa-CzR ↗ You've expressed opposition to the current company threshold, well, the latest draft proposes to increase the threshold from 500 to 1000 employees, from €150 to €300m in worldwide turnover. This would significantly reduce the number of firms in scope. An even higher threshold would be laughable at this stage. Happy now? ⛓ You've been complaining about downstream obligations; the latest draft proposes to exclude - on top of the sales and usage - due diligence obligations pertaining to the disposal of product. Happy now? ⚖ You've been spreading fake news about litigation burdens resulting from civil liability provisions. Guess what? It worked! The latest draft includes further concessions on civil liability. Happy now? Sweden, it's time to show some respect for the diplomatic efforts by the current presidency. You've got what you wanted. 📣 You've even forced human rights groups in Uganda to speak up: https://lnkd.in/dnZhSUmh No more games. #VoteYes

Four recent disputes in three different Dutch-Belgian cross-border regions made me wonder: what is going on? Can't we solve disputes with our neigbours by amicable means? Why escaslating disputes and risking conflict? Do private and public stakeholders on both side of the border lack the means to settle the dispute by friendly means? It's time for provincial en municipal administrators to reflect. Perhaps we should create a specific cross-border, mediatory dispute settlement mechanism. Just an idea.
