Our first-ever THE HIVE Networking Event ✨ Last Thursday was our first-ever THE HIVE Networking Night, where we gathered passionate young theatre enthusiasts and emerging philanthropists for an unforgettable evening of networking, inspiration, and support for emerging Australian artists. 🎭 THE HIVE is Belvoir's giving circle that champions the next generation of creative talent. In 2025 they will be supporting Belvoir's production of THE WRONG GODS, written by S Shakthidharan (Counting and Cracking, Jungle and the Sea)! On the night we were joined by S Shakthidharan who spoke about THE WRONG GODS, and Belvoir Board Member Stephen Allen joined us to speak about the importance of philanthropy in the arts. A big thank you to everyone who attended, supported, and made this event such a success, and thank you to the Poor Toms and City Oltra team for hosting us! If you would like to find out more about THE HIVE or would like to join this fantastic giving group, follow this link: https://lnkd.in/gpfQ83uT

Today, December 3, 2024, is #GivingTuesday. It’s a simple idea: a movement that encourages people around the world to use their individual power of generosity to support their communities. There are so many ways to express generosity on GivingTuesday and every day! Whether it’s making someone smile, helping a stranger, or giving to those who need our help, every act of generosity counts, and everyone has something to give. About GivingTuesday: -GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a day that encourages people to do good. -It is a global movement that reached Canada in 2013. It focuses on unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world. It is the world’s largest generosity movement. -The goal is creating an activation that allows people to express generosity in a memorable, impact way. You can: · Host or participate in a holiday good drive in your community, fill a gap in services, or solve an immediate need in your community. · Fundraise for your organization or another organization, take the time to amplify historically under-funded organizations. · Spend GivingTuesday thanking and celebrating your supporters. For more information check out the official website at Giving Tuesday https://lnkd.in/dEHaUCsZ As a Commercial Relationship Manager at RBC working with Not for Profit organizations it gives me immense pride to have a role where I get to work with the real heros who make a difference on the ground each and everyday. I feel that through providing advise and service to these organizations I have an opportunity to help them extend the great work that the do. I hope you take some time today to support a person, organization or community extend their reach and maximize the amazing work that they do. #mycompany #community

Philea - Philanthropy Europe Association is one of those rare organizations that have set themselves a courageous goal: to truly move our sector of #philanthropy to the next level, to nudge us forward, out of our comfort zones, into the unknown, to embrace what it means to contribute to our world's problems in a way that matches the challenge. Philanthropy has a unique role in our world: it can fund what cannot be funded. It can make impossible things possible. It can raise our aspirations and change mindsets. For that to happen it also has to ask itself some tough questions: - Are we being courageous enough? - Is how we are spending our money fit for purpose?- Are we truly rising to the challenges? - Are we doing all we can? - Are we doing all we must do? And what does that mean for our relationship with #trust in this world, with our partners, with those we serve? I am super excited to explore these questions with such an amazing group of dedicated people next week in #Ghent at #PhileaForum2024 Ashoka #EveryoneAChangemaker with Delphine Moralis Carola Carazzone Raphaela Toncic-Sorinj David Bonbright
The #PhileaForum2024 will see over 100 speakers contribute throughout the programme! The voices joining us at the Opening and Closing plenaries include: - Rutger Bregman, The School for Moral Ambition - Christine Sow, Humentum - Rhodri Davies, Why Philanthropy Matters - Sophie Pornschlegel, Europe Jacques Delors - Damir Sagolj, WARM Foundation - Marie Ringler, Ashoka And many more! Great summary of the power of mutual aid.
Eric Liu is my hero and his brainchild Citizen University’s Civic Collaboratory is my happy place. And it can be yours too, at least for the length of time it takes you to read this FANTASTIC article by Drew Lindsay in the The Chronicle of Philanthropy to learn more about the Collaboratory—“mutual aid on steroids” as Eric calls it— and how it demonstrates what constructive, collaborative, cross-partisan democracy can look and feel like. Need extra incentive to dig in? You can read about how the amazing Uma Kalkar and I pitched YVote’s Democracy Camp for national expansion—and garnered a $10k investment on the spot from the estimable Ian Simmons, along with a bevy of other great commitments and partnerships. Need an ADDITIONAL incentive? There’s a glorious photo of another of my civic heroes, Lisa Kay Solomon, and me at Collaboratory. Note: this is part of a wonderful newish section of the Chronicle called The Commons that was launched “to explore the ideas, conversations, and solutions for a fractured country.” I can’t recommend it highly enough but be forewarned that it’s addictive: I want to read EVERY article they publish. Check it out!

📣 Hear ye, hear ye, The Power of Pop Fund has a new strategy! 📈 One of the advisory Community Council's biggest projects this year has been to articulate the forward strategy of the PoP Fund, and here it is. Hot off the press, our look at 2025-2028. https://lnkd.in/ezxkPeMw My highlights are: 👁 Our vision: We envision a society where thought provoking creativity inspires the public to believe in and demand equitable futures. ✊🏾 Our mission: To advance social justice by championing transformative, community-led organisations that influence pop culture creatively. ⚖️ Our governance and operational model: Lived experience-led and ruthless about building the wider social justice ecosystem. 🤔 Our learning questions: How we intend to evaluate our impact across a disparate group of activities in the space. 🤑 Our funding eligibility criteria: Most importantly, how you can get money from us! We have greatly sharpened our focus on how we will allocate future grants, and I can't wait to announce our upcoming Cohort 3 soon. 📸 All the great pictures highlighting the beautiful people doing this work! 👀 Watch this space for more news on the PoP Fund. For more resources, please also see these fantastic documents: 🏛️ Our foundational framework - how we believe investing in pop culture can effect social change. https://lnkd.in/ensAv9Mi 📐 Monitoring and evaluation toolkit - a practical guide on how you can measure social impact in your own organisations. https://lnkd.in/eU8FtgkM 🙏 Special thanks to Maxine Thomas-Asante FRSA, K Biswas, Adwoa Darko, Ade L., Julian McIntosh, Alice Sachrajda, Comic Relief and far too many others to name here. #PowerOfPopFund #PoPFund #SocialJustice #ComicRelief #AdvisoryBoard #CommunityCouncil #PopCulture #Film #Television #Philanthropy #Charity

“Let’s build something together. And let’s build someone up together.” Eric Liu, cofounder and CEO of Citizen University is a visionary, builder and catalyst of better civic futures. This wonderful article by Drew Lindsay in The Chronicle of Philanthropy captures the outsized (and even unexpected!) impact that can happen when people come together from different backgrounds and experiences to lift each other up and advance each other's work in additive, generative, expansive - and yes, joyful ways. There’s so much I’ve learned - and gained - from being a part of this extraordinary community. Below are a few additional personal nuggets I've observed about why Civic Collaboratory conveninings are truly "mutual aid on steroids": 💡 "Commitments of Capital" can come in multiple forms. Capital is often talked about in a narrow way usually related to financial resources. Instead, we can think about giving and receiving capital through an abundant lens: social capital of connections, relational capital of supports, intellectual and experience capital of ideas and know-how. Most importantly, the human capital of our presence, curiosity and care. 🔑 Words and rituals matter. When you respond to requests with offers of help, start with the phrase “I commit...” (not "I think" or "I could"). “I commit” communicates clarity, intention, and action. ❤️ When bonds of trust and affection are authentically cultivated and honored, the most incredible things can happen. The partnerships and friendships I’ve made through this unique community have fueled innovative, human and heart-lead civics efforts that have reached tens of thousands of people. (Honoring you… Sam Ball Shamichael Hallman Sanda Balaban Cheryl Hughes Debilyn Molineaux Caroline Klibanoff Kaz Brecher Rich Tafel Daniel Stid Zoey Cane Belyea Paul Beyer Kayla DeMonte Vicki Rubio among so many others!) And then guess what happens? When you experience the personal, social, and communal impact of this kind of environment, you want to re-create it for others.. across diverse geographies, ideologies, and communities. BONUS Listening/ Reading: I've long been hoping to infuse Eric's perspectives into K12 classrooms and learning environments. Several years ago, Tim Fish and I spoke with Eric on the New View EDU podcast. It was one of my favorites and definitely worth checking out even if you're not a teacher! https://lnkd.in/gp4damv3
