The Superyacht Captains Forum Day 1 Programme Highlight in partnership with Yare Networking… The inaugural session of YARE Networking commences with a keynote presentation examining “State of the Market” delivered by Martin H. Redmayne, Chairman of The Superyacht Group at 09:30-10:15. Following the keynote address, the keynote YARE Debate will look to discover the following question ‘How can we future-proof the existing fleet?’ at 10:15-11:30. This panel discussion and debate will explore the key opportunities to upgrade and future-proof the vast network of yachts that still operate with conventional diesel engines and fuel, combined with energy consumption and systems that can be improved to make a significant reduction of our fleet’s impact. The final keynote YARE debate of day 1 will look to answer the question around ‘What is the future of Mediterranean yachting?’ at 12:00-13:00. Wild Coast 4x4 - Inxaxo River crossing Part of the Wild Coast Extreme 4x4 Adventure 3 to 10 August 11 River Crossings, Mountain Passes, Shipwrecks, Waterfalls & ferry Crossing. From R14 815pp sharing D,B&B. A steep washed away approach with a few big steps and off-camber mud pit with a deep hole at the river that needed packing. A technical river crossing with a rocky bottom, deep holes and large exit steps. Then a steep rocky grade 4 exit with large technical steps that required guiding through. Required a fair bit of packing and road building and then guiding to negotiate this technical section. Diff-lock essential. One vehicle did not check diff-lock was still engaged and slid off into the trees, resulting in a long precarious recovery. After which diff-lock was engaged and the vehicle proceeded up the exit steps. Note: 4x4 vehicle with low range, diff-lock & high clearance required. Note: you will need to be a competent and experience 4x4’er for this Grade 4 route tour. Imagine cruising through the beautiful Strait of Gibraltar when suddenly—BAM! A pod of orcas rams your yacht until it starts taking on water and sinks. It sounds like a plot twist, right? Well, this happened just recently to a small 15-metre sailboat. Since 2020, there have been nearly 700 interactions between these majestic creatures and boats around the Iberian Peninsula. Some say it's the orcas teaching their young or maybe even exacting revenge. Who really knows? The incident left the yacht, Alboran Cognac, sinking while a nearby oil tanker rescued its two passengers. The orcas, particularly the Iberian subspecies, seem to know exactly what they're doing, often targeting the rudder. Experts recommend stopping the boat and letting go of the rudder if orcas start interacting with your vessel. This 'usually' causes them to lose interest. And whatever you do, don't try to fight back—remember, the open sea is their home, not ours.
