Cyber Grooming: Digital Violence Against Women and Girls 🚺💔
As Roman Höfner, Roman Lehberger, and Lina Verschwele compellingly illustrate in their article in the German Magazine DER SPIEGEL titled with "Start Where You Find the Most Vulnerable Girls" from last Wednesday, the rights of women and girls are threatened not only in the physical world but also online. Cyber grooming represents digital acts of violence, posing a severe violation of fundamental human rights—especially the right to safety, protection from violence, and privacy. Women and girls fall victims and their rights to protection, dignity, and integrity increasingly endangered online. Cyber grooming involves perpetrators specifically targeting young women and girls on the internet, pressuring and degrading them into sexual acts. These acts signify a new form of male abuse of power, reflecting a digital society where women and girls are seen as subordinate and targets for exploitation.
This trend underscores the importance of education and awareness in the digital age. Young people, especially girls, must learn how to protect themselves online. It's crucial to strengthen awareness of the rights of women and girls and to promote a culture that rejects violence in any form.
Our commitment to coaching is entering new dimensions: digital assertiveness and cross-generational resilience.
