With students heading back to university over the next few weeks, we’re reflecting on our #wayfinding scheme for the University of Staffordshire. We designed a digital and dynamic wayfinding system, to create a new student hub on campus. The Catalyst was designed to create a multi-purpose space for students where they could work, collaborate and relax. Our wayfinding strategy utilised internally illuminated signs to create a bright digital centre and, unites a range of spaces and their uses. 📷 Edward Bishop 🔗 To read more about our digital wayfinding system, click here: https://lnkd.in/e3UMTm5H #UoS #TheCatalyst #wayfindingstrategy #design #digitaldesign

Save the Date... Building on the success of the first Liberated School Spaces conference, ECIS, tp bennett architects, and The Mona Lisa Effect® (Matthew Savage) are pleased to announce: Liberated School Spaces 2.0 08 & 09 November 2024 Eromesmarko design centre, Wijchen, The Netherlands Join #educators, #students, #architects, #designers, #healthprofessionals, and #manufacturers from across the globe to explore how to liberate minds and, ultimately, school spaces. Going much further, and much deeper, than the first event, this second conference will challenge you to explore, and liberate, a wider range of school spaces. In addition, we will offer a deep dive into unleashing your creativity, systems thinking and barriers to change – underpinned throughout by a commitment to sustainability, #wellbeing and #DEIJB. Whether you attended the first conference or this is your first foray into liberating school spaces, you will have the opportunity to curate your own experience and learning goals. Here's some feedback from last year's conference in London: "It is no exaggeration when I say that the conference was the professional development highlight of my career, and it is gratifying that design is finally becoming a focal point of the educational experience." Jennifer Jacqueline Motre - International School of Amsterdam Join us in The Netherlands at Eromesmarko’s inspiring design centre. Together we can shift from the controlling spaces of traditional school design to a new paradigm that liberates bodies in space. Registration will open soon, but for now, please save the date for #LiberatedSchoolSpaces2024. #InternationalSchools #InternationalEducation #SchoolDesign #SchoolArchitecture #LearningSpaces #Education #ECISMembership

Through the design of functional green areas, the aim is to create a more fluid connectivity between the different spaces of the campus, which are sometimes fragmented and divided by public roads. Green therefore acts as both a visual and spatial connector. The graphic icon system was developed with the aim of communicating the functional green areas in the clearest and most immediate way possible, aiming to make them recognizable and understandable for future users of the campus. #amaart #bfeducational #innovation #green #visualidentity #formazione #ricerca #grafic #innovazione #campus #landscape #sostenibile #design #wayfinding #signage #greenery #designproposal #beautifularchitecture #sustainable #sustainablearchitecture #sustainablesolutions #futureproof #innovation #architecturetender #urbandevelopment #urbancore #naturalwayfinding

"𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗶𝘁, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲." This iconic line from “Field of Dreams” speaks to the power of vision and purpose. In architecture, it’s not just about building, it’s about creating spaces that inspire, transform, and elevate the human experience. Take education, for example. Research shows that well-designed school environments can significantly improve student outcomes. Flexible, innovative, and inviting spaces don’t just house learning; they amplify it. • A study by the University of Salford found that classroom design can impact learning progress by up to 25% in a single academic year. • Schools with open, collaborative layouts report a 15% increase in engagement levels, according to Harvard's Graduate School of Education. • Natural light, adaptable furniture, and creative wall graphics have been linked to better focus and a 13% boost in test scores, as noted by the American Institutes for Research. At Solutions Architecture, we believe in designing spaces with intention, spaces that adapt to evolving needs and invite connection, it allows us to create an environment where students thrive, teachers inspire, and communities grow stronger. Field of Dreams wasn't just about a baseball diamond, it was about creating something extraordinary and watching it transform lives. That’s what we aim to do with every project we take on. So, the question is: What spaces do you need that can help your community thrive?!

Schools are more than just buildings – they're hubs for our community's future. The Tanalian K-12 School Renewal wasn't just about doubling the size – it was about doubling down on individualized learning. The design prioritizes flexible spaces for one-on-one work and small group collaboration, fostering a truly student-centered environment. We got to thinking outside the box (literally, with additions on three sides!), and the results are inspiring. The best part? The close collaboration with the Port Alsworth community to ensure the design met their unique needs and DEED requirements. This project is a shining example of how architecture can empower educators and create a space where every student can thrive. What are your thoughts on designing for personalized learning? On Wednesday November 13th, we will be facilitating a participatory design workshop titled ‘Our Time To Play, Our Space to Play: Designing Playgrounds Through The Eyes of Pre-Schoolers’. Organised by Anna Koskinen and Mireia Pujol from PROU.STUDIO architecture, the workshop will have the Early Education children do their own design proposal for their school’s new playground. Our architecture practice integrates the participatory design methodology into building rehabilitation and urban planning. We believe that through a collaborative approach we are able to design spaces with greater correspondence to the end user’s needs and wishes as well as to create a profound feel of ownership. As it so often happens in the discourse of educational spaces, the main users - the children - are unlikely to be consulted. We at PROU.STUDIO want to change this, and explore how the Early Education children engage in symbolic play and imaginative thinking while they construct their understanding of playground space. This workshop setting can offer insights not only into children’s cognitive and artistic abilities but also into their social interactions, emotional well-being, and how they interpret and engage with their surroundings. #architecture #education #participatorydesign

Welcome to the School Design Study Group at Cambridge University! We are a community of school design enthusiasts united by a shared belief in the transformative power of well-designed learning environments. Based at Cambridge University, our group brings together a diverse mix of undergraduate and postgraduate students, faculty members from the Department of Architecture and the Faculty of Education, as well as individuals from beyond these disciplines. In this space, we create opportunities for educationalists, spatial practitioners, and academics to connect and engage in meaningful dialogue. We aim to explore and expand ideas on how the built environment shapes the learning experience. Together, we delve into pressing questions such as: How do spatial design and pedagogy intersect? What makes a school building conducive to holistic learning? Our interdisciplinary community comes alive through: - Discussions with leading voices in the field—architects, educators, design anthropologists, and activists. - Visits to inspiring local schools that exemplify innovative design. - Design charettes that bring together architects and educators to generate new ideas for the future of school design. If you're passionate about reimagining educational spaces or simply curious to learn more, we’d love to connect with you! Follow us for insights, events, and conversations on what makes a school space truly impactful. Let’s reshape the future of learning environments—one discussion at a time. #SchoolDesign #CambridgeUniversity #LearningEnvironments #EducationalSpaces #Architecture #InterdisciplinaryResearch
