🔥🏗️ SHANGHAI TOWER TALLEST ARCHITECTURAL BUILDING IN CHINA 🏗️🔥 🏢 Shanghai Tower is a 128-story, 632-meter-tall (2,073 ft) megatall skyscraper located in Lujiazui, Pudong, Shanghai. 🌐 It is the tallest building in China and the world's third-tallest building by height to architectural top. 🏆 It is the tallest and largest LEED Platinum certified building in the world since 2015. 💨 It had the world's fastest elevators at a top speed of 20.5 meters per second (74 km/h; 46 mph) until 2017, when it was surpassed by the Guangzhou CTF Finance Center, with its top speed of 21 meters per second (76 km/h; 47 mph). 🎯 Designed by the international design firm Gensler and owned by the Shanghai Municipal Government, it is the tallest of the world's first triple-adjacent supertall buildings in Pudong, the other two being the Jin Mao Tower and the Shanghai World Financial Center. 💡 Its tiered construction, designed for high energy efficiency, provides nine separate zones divided between office, retail and leisure use. 🚀 The US-based Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat cites it as "one of the most sustainably advanced tall buildings in the world. 🎬 Don't you think it's impressive? The China real estate market is now showing the signs of maturity that we have been used to seeing in Europe and N America for many years. Where new development is taking place (as below), use/content, design and construction quality will shine through to ensure long term success. But It’s also a time when the funds and asset managers start to see value in asset enhancement extracting value from smaller interventions to ensure success. As China's cities become increasingly crowded, innovative solutions are emerging to meet the challenges of urbanization. This Liziba Station in Chongqing, China, is a remarkable example of urban planning and architectural innovation. Located on Line 2 of Chongqing’s monorail system, the station is unique because the train passes directly through the sixth to eighth floors of a 19-story residential building. This design was not just a creative solution but a necessary one due to Chongqing's rugged, mountainous terrain and the need to maximize urban space in this densely populated city.⁠ ⁠ The project took about two years to design, and special measures were implemented to minimize noise and vibration, ensuring that the living conditions of residents were not adversely affected. Noise levels are kept below 60 decibels, comparable to the sound of a normal conversation, and the building structure was reinforced to accommodate the train's passage.⁠ ⁠ Liziba Station has become a tourist attraction, drawing visitors fascinated by the idea of a train running through a building. 10 Design’s interactive bridge connects the community with dynamic renovation!   #Hangzhou's retail scene has new a centrepiece — Xizi Link Bridge at the in77 Mall — turning heads and attracting visitors in their thousands to experience the futuristic design first-hand.   Converting an underutilized link bridge into an extraordinary installation in one of China’s busiest retail districts, the design combines 3D LED screens with a performance stage. In the day, the LED screens wrap seamlessly to form a naked-eye display, creating a dynamic cityscape. At night, the screens open, unveiling a stage that could elevate even the best performance. From opera to symphonies, the installation blends art, retail, and urban space.   Part of a larger retail renovation plan currently underway with our team, the successful debut of Xizi Link Bridge, sets the stage for future phases. What are the realities of an aging building? This question echoed throughout a recent seminar hosted by Spatial Anatomy during Singapore Design Week, where they unveiled their upcoming book, “Singapore Strata Malls: A Retrospective for the Future.” The term “Strata Mall” may sound unfamiliar to some, yet in Singapore, these mid-century structures - with their fragmented ownership models and pragmatic architecture - tell a different kind of story. Built in the 1970s and 1980s, strata malls quietly resist the shiny façades of modern developments, despite the scarcity of land and tightly regulated property landscape. These buildings were not designed to impress. Their forms are utilitarian, often plain. Yet they pulse with life, embedded with memories, commercial exchanges, and the quiet persistence of community. Function over form - that was the priority. Today, the question is whether that function is still relevant, or if these outdated malls should give way to sleek, open designs that mirror contemporary retail experiences. The seminar emphasized what is often overlooked: strata malls are more than tired façades; they are cultural landmarks, weaving together the stories of their often multigenerational tenants. This conversation struck a familiar chord for me. In my research on the decline of the kiosk, I encountered the same dilemma. Are these spaces simply obsolete, or are they opportunities for reinvention? Much like kiosks, strata malls are more than their economic value. They are the soul of a neighbourhood, standing at the intersection of utility and memory. The question remains: Is rehabilitation the answer, or is inevitable retirement on the horizon?
