We certified The Ivey's Hotel and they are great example 'how not to do dog friendly'. They barely scraped a C rank, scoring just 11 points out of 52. This is because they price gouge dog owners with unnecessarily steep fees while providing no services, amenities, or facilities for dogs in return, or even allowing them access to the wider hotel, and to make things worse they have a small weight limit meaning only very small dogs are welcome. We use hotels like this as an example of how not all dog friendly hotels are created equally, and how the words 'dog friendly' mean nothing unless they have been properly certified and ranked by an independent third party. We certified the Catalonia Eixample 1864 Hotel, and it scored a failing F rank, making it a hotel to avoid for dog owners visiting Barcelona. Dogs are not allowed in the common areas, bars, and restaurants; they must stay in your room, meaning you cannot expect to enjoy this hotel with your dog. They fail to provide basic amenities like beds, food, and water bowls, and they have an absurd 20 Kg (40 pounds) weight limit that excludes our Labrador. They will also charge you a canine tax of €22 ($25) per night while offering nothing in return; this hotel should be ashamed to call itself dog-friendly.
