Celebrating Juneteenth: Empowering Black Talent in Tech Despite making up 12% of the US workforce, Black professionals account for only 8% of the tech industry. Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19th, marks the end of slavery in the U.S. As we honor this day, it's crucial to reflect on how we can bridge historical gaps and foster a more inclusive tech industry. Initiatives like Google's Tech Equity Collective and the Black Genius Academy are working to bridge this gap by providing resources, mentorship, and career exploration tools specifically for Black talent. To further support this mission, it's crucial to focus on community outreach, partnerships with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), and targeted programs that equip Black youth with the necessary skills and opportunities to thrive in tech. Let's use this Juneteenth to commit to actions that will foster a more inclusive and diverse tech ecosystem. Check out these resources for more information on how we can all contribute to this important cause.

🔥 A Vision for Equity, Innovation, and Self-Determination 🌍✨ "If I’m not working to create Black wealth, then I’m not doing my job." 💡 These words from Derrick Johnson at AFROTECH 2024 aren't just a statement—they’re a rallying cry for building systems that empower, uplift, and sustain Black communities. 🚀 💭 Reimagining Education and Innovation: “It is being able to be self-determined that our human essence is an exploited second stool for cheap or free labor… and we are able to create more critical thinkers.” Johnson's reflection is a challenge to leave behind outdated systems—stale classrooms and obsolete textbooks—and instead build innovative frameworks that inspire the next generation. 📚🌱 COVID-19 unveiled systemic cracks, and Johnson’s bold critique of traditional approaches—“I could be in a room with elected officials. They’re boring, and they lost, and I ain’t got time for them”—reminds us: Change isn’t polite; it’s unapologetic, disruptive, and action-oriented. 💥 The launch of NAACP Capital—a $200M fund aimed at uplifting startups and fund managers bridging the wealth gap in communities of color. 💰💼 💡 Johnson’s reminder: Protect intellectual property and empower Black entrepreneurs to overcome funding hurdles. 💪🏿 Dominic K. Hawkins, Jay Lundy NAACP lets dicsuss on how we can increase Black homeownership rates and create an actionable strategy for building generational wealth. 💪🏿 Samantha Katz Mike Green Gillian Marcelle, PhD Elizabeth Leiba https://lnkd.in/eAsGjSvd

Black creative communities are the soul of cultural innovation and resilience. Theses communities embody the power of storytelling, problem-solving, and transformation. These artists and visionaries are not only preserving history but also shaping the future with bold imagination and boundless talent. For too long, systemic barriers have stifled the brilliance of Black creatives. I believe in breaking down those barriers by creating spaces for collaboration, offering resources for growth, and amplifying their voices. At The CR8TV HOUSE, we focus on building opportunities for these artists to thrive—because when they do, entire communities are empowered. Supporting Black creatives isn’t just about art; it’s about equity, legacy, and reimagining what’s possible.

🖤 The Vital Need for Safe Spaces for Black Professionals 🖤 With the turmoil that is sure to shake this country over the next four years following the Presidential election, it is more important than ever for Black professionals to have private, safe places to gather, speak, and support one another. We already navigate challenges daily—being “the only” in the room, having our voices silenced, and shouldering the burden of representation. But in times like these, those challenges intensify, and the weight becomes heavier. ✨ Why Safe Spaces Matter: ✅ Healing and Support: We need spaces where we can process our frustrations, share our fears, and find strength among those who understand our journey. ✅ Collaboration and Growth: These spaces allow us to exchange ideas, resources, and strategies that build us up individually and collectively. ✅ Reinforcement of Identity: Being in community reminds us of our brilliance and resilience—especially when the world feels uncertain. ✨ Why Now? The next four years will bring both challenges and opportunities. It is vital that we, as Black professionals, prepare, organize, and thrive together. When we stand united, our voices are louder, our impact is greater, and our future is brighter. 💡 I’m creating that space—a private, exclusive community where Black professionals can connect, share, and grow in an environment built on trust and mutual support. If you’re ready to invest in yourself and in our community, let’s do this together. Comment “I want in” 👇🏽 or DM me for an application to become a founding member.

This powerful article by LeRon L. Barton highlights the reality for Black professionals navigating the tech industry. LeRon’s personal account sheds light on the persistent barriers and biases Black individuals face in tech—a field still dominated by homogeneity, where representation remains a pressing issue. The article discusses how being one of the few Black voices in tech impacts identity, mental health, and career progression, and why creating truly inclusive workplaces requires more than just surface-level diversity initiatives. At StreetCode, we’re committed to supporting underserved communities with the skills, mentorship, and networks they need to thrive in tech. This isn’t just about representation; it’s about building a tech industry where everyone’s voice and experience are respected and valued: https://lnkd.in/gYvPn5eA #tech #technews #equalaccess #futureleaders #techeducation
