Today I've given my LinkedIn connections, and the accounts I follow, an early spring clean. It was pretty drastic. Almost half of my connections went. Along with two thirds of the accounts I follow. So why do it? Because, I'm primarily on here to build my business. Yes, I'm here to learn, share and build my community, too. But I know I need to build my community strategically. And curate my feed, so it's filled with content that inspires me..... and not the clickbait and endless AI question responses that the algorithm loves. If you want to make the most of being here, you need to shape what you see. By taking control of your feed. Okay, let's admit it: we're all a little obsessed with the algorithm. We dissect trends, stress over posting times... but what if we're missing the point? Niche content, even if it means your posts won't end up trending alongside the latest dance craze, has tremendous value. Sometimes, it might feel like that one person who needs your specific insights is hiding in a very remote corner of LinkedIn. But those connections matter! It sparks deeper conversations with a targeted audience who actually care about your work. It's where innovation happens – when we dare to be the weirdo passionately talking about [insert your obscure niche] instead of joining the bandwagon. Let's face it, we can't all be Taylor Swift, dominating every corner of the internet. And if we were,  we'd miss all sorts of breakthroughs, and frankly, it would get a bit boring. Niche content on LinkedIn is like the rebellious younger sibling of viral posts – less predictable, but ultimately, more interesting. It lets you become an authority in your field, attracting the right collaborators, building your reputation, and fostering discussions that don't revolve around the best time to hit 'post'. Don't be afraid to let your niche flag fly!  After all, the greatest innovations often come from those who dare to think differently – and sometimes, that means thinking small before you can think big. As much as I value LinkedIn as a platform, its inflicting of the "Takeaways" on users wastes valuable screen real estate without adding value. Over the past few weeks, I’ve increased my LinkedIn activity and experimented with various tools, including those for “commenting for attention.” The reactions were mixed, but the impact was clear—I saw a significant increase in subscriptions to Policy-Insider. To succeed, you need a clear content strategy and timeline. AI tools can speed up implementation, but here are some key points to keep in mind: 1. Hook: Start with an engaging question or statement. 2. Personal Story: LinkedIn should be about your insights and views. 3. Key Points: Highlight 2-3 main points. 4. Ask a Question: End with an open-ended question to encourage interatcion. 5. Current Events: Related to recent events or developments. Do you still take the time to create meaningful content?

What on earth is happening with LinkedIn recently? Impressions dropped through the floor, seeing people's content from weeks ago! Well after hours of digging! Here we are! LinkedIn’s algorithm has been making some big shifts, so here’s a quick look at what’s happening and what we can do to keep up: 1️⃣ Quality over Quantity: LinkedIn is focusing on posts that encourage real conversation over just racking up likes. More comments = better reach. So, sparking genuine discussions is key! 2️⃣ Less Promo, More Connection: LinkedIn is starting to downrank overly promotional content, giving more visibility to posts that prioritize authenticity over ads. So if you’re used to frequent CTAs, try softening the sales tone! 3️⃣ Posts from Direct Connections: Expect to see more content from people in your network rather than outside your circle. LinkedIn is leaning into a community-focused feel. 4️⃣ AI-Driven Content Adjustments: LinkedIn’s AI is working to show us unique, relevant posts, meaning repetitive or similar content may see reduced reach. 📈 The takeaway? Focus on connection-driven, conversation-starting content. This is a professional networking site after all. p.s.
