Yesterday I was invited by Lakshan De Silva and Jeevan Gnanam to visit Hatch Works in #Colombo #SriLanka. Besides their company SpectrifyAI , there were a lot of impact startups doing great things. Great to see that countries like Sri Lanka “produces” passionate purpose driven entrepreneurs focusing on solutions that actually do create a better world through social and sustainable impact. Youngsters that see the impact of climate change, inequality and poverty every day intrinsically want to change the world for the better. Greenlife Organics Led by Himanshu Chaturvedi The Journey After 16 years in the pharmaceuticals marketing industry, Himanshu Chaturvedi realized a critical insight: food is a major culprit behind metabolic disorders like diabetes and hypertension. This revelation sparked an idea—to promote organic farming among farmers. The Challenge Conversations with farmers revealed a significant challenge: the high cost and environmental impact of chemical fertilizers. This understanding led to the inception of a solution that would address this issue and more. The Start GreenLife Organics started humbly with just one bed and 15 kg of earthworms. This small beginning marked the start of a mission to revolutionize farming practices and promote sustainable agriculture. The Growth Today, GreenLife Organics has grown exponentially, boasting 50 beds and more than 500 kg of earthworms. The startup has also scaled its operations by sourcing cow dung and agro waste from farmers to produce high-quality vermicompost. The Mission GreenLife Organics is dedicated to fostering sustainable agriculture practices through the production of vermicompost, the cultivation of earthworms, and the creation of organic manure. The startup aims to provide eco-friendly solutions that promote healthier soils, stronger crops, and a more sustainable future. Project GREEN HAVEN is an inspiring initiative that emerged during the challenging times of #COVID_19. Its purpose was to provide employment and stable incomes to those who lost their livelihood. Under Project Green Haven, we cultivate various varieties of #mushrooms that are: Black Oyster, King Oyster, Pink Oyster, Blue Oyster, Yellow Oyster, and button mushrooms, while practicing sustainable farming methods. Through Project Green Haven we work closely with #marginalized communities to empower them by teaching them skills required for harvesting, cultivating, and selling mushrooms to provide them with an opportunity to grow their own business. By providing financial independence with #sustainability, we strive to create a lasting positive impact on these individuals while promoting eco-friendly, sustainable agricultural practices and reducing harmful practices like parali burning by growing mushroom organically in parali, by which we contribute to food security and environmental conservation. Mushroom Cultivation Program (MCP) is another initiative under Project Green Heaven. Under MCP we equip participants with the knowledge and skills to establish sustainable livelihoods through mushroom farming. In addition to the traditional cultivation method our program offers experience with one of the few of the state of the art #Iot technologies present in Delhi. Many individuals have benefitted through these classes and have become #economically_empowered and #self_reliant by establishing their own businesses. This impact makes Green Haven not just a project but a step that we took towards sustainability.
