59 bikes. 59 lives. Thousands left grieving. Each of these ghost bikes represents a person on a bike who has been killed in Aotearoa New Zealand in the last 5 years. In almost all cases, lower speed limits would have reduced the harm. Take a moment's silence to reflect on World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims 🕯️ With special thanks to the people who dreamt up and laboured on this art installation, to Greenpeace Aotearoa for their support, and to Brake (New Zealand) for their tireless work to make our roads safer. 📸 Simon Oosterman The full story 👇 https://lnkd.in/girqWy5s #ghostbike #artinstallation #tamakimakaurau #roaddeaths #speedrule #WDoR2024

What makes the Bike Scouts different from all other resilience projects is that we started by building a community. We didn't go out and meet people in communities to show them a colorful presentation that tells them what to do. We didn't build a product with random features and told people to download it because it's good for them and the planet. Instead, when a very violent and destructive typhoon made landfall in the Philippines we demonstrated the value and the idea of Bike Scouts by being the first to practice what we preach. And then we kept on delivering value to people for almost all other major disaster events in the Philippines in the past eleven years before the first line of code for our platform was even written. People are not data points, they are not a market or an audience, they are not beneficiaries of anyone's good intentions - they are people. Bike Scouts helps preserve the dignity of people we serve by being a part of communities and making all of our action local rather than being a random outsider parachuting in to save the day. This is what gives Bike Scouts it's super power - local context. Local context is the reason why Bike Scouts doesn't waste resources by giving away truckloads of preserved food to people who actually know how to get fresh food locally but need specific supplies and medication for specific people in the community more than anything else. Local context is how we know that giving people aid based on the scale of damage and loss to their homes and lives might sound like it makes sense on paper and checklists but leaves behind a community broken apart by the inequality of help - in their eyes and their own interpretation of what's fair. Bike Scouts are local to the communities where we serve, because true local resilience requires true local understanding. This is why we ride. #wearebikescouts

Our new report - Walk, Wheel and Thrive - demonstrates the value of the National Cycle Network in delivering well-being for the people of Wales. At 1,600 miles, the NCN in Wales is roughly the same length as the trunk road network. It delivers a wide range of social, economic, environmental and cultural benefits, achieving impact across all 7 national well-being goals. Despite the benefits, the Network is struggling with the effects of extreme weather and climate change. The range of weather conditions that routes have to endure is leading to issues such as landslips, rock fall, flooding and more. Today, we are calling on the Welsh Government and other partners to recognise the Network as an important national asset and ensure necessary maintenance to prevent issues and protect it for future generations. A ‘Hole’ Lot Of Problems We all encounter potholes on public roads, for many on a daily basis, but are we really at crisis levels? Yes, according to Cycling UK, “Britain’s pothole crisis costs lives”. According to the charity’s statistics, nearly one person per week (255 people) has been killed or seriously injured while cycling due to potholes and road defects on Britain’s roads since 2017. Thanks to Britain’s inclement weather and post-2008 cuts to local authorities’ budgets, the quality of the country’s roads ranks 37th in the world, between Slovenia and Lithuania. In 2019, over 700,000 complaints about potholes were received by Councils, according to the Federation of Small Businesses. In our latest article, we will look at the real-life dangers of potholes, why the UK has a problem, whether enough is being done, and what you can do if you have been involved in a pothole-related incident. https://lnkd.in/eEsBX2S7 #personalinjury #personalinjuryclaim #injuryclaim #publicliability #legalservices #legaladvice #solicitors #solicitorsuk #nicholsonjonessuttonsolicitors #asknjssolicitors

55,000 tennis balls from Wimbledon are upcycled into tiny homes for mice - we 💚 this positive upcycling story Instead of discarding thousands of tennis balls after the tournament, many get repurposed as tiny shelters, providing a safe haven for wildlife like small harvest mice. 🐭 💬 Dr Simon Lyster, Director General of the Wildlife Trusts, said: "In recent years it has been under increasing pressure and we hope that by specific harvest mouse projects such as artificial nests we will provide them with the help they need to survive." It's a brilliant example of how we can rethink waste and create value in unexpected ways. #CircularEconomy #Wimbledon #Upcycling #HarvestMice #Sustainability #PositiveNews

The Courier Guy on point again with their marketing. Well done to Simon Hill and the team behind this 👏 Proof that brand love carries a lot of clout. It's not always MVP, USP, MRR, ARR [insert relevant TLA - Three Letter Acronym - here] or other go-to metrics that move the needle. Just be top of mind in your niche. #marketing #advertising #business
