🤩 Excited to be in Kigali this week to meet the movers and shakers who are reimagining and reshaping Africa’s food systems during the Africa Food Systems Forum! 🥗 💡 As the African Union is preparing its new Agenda to accelerate implementation of the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme in 2025-2035, the theme of the AFSF "Innovate, Accelerate, and Scale: Delivering Food Systems Transformation in a Digital and Climate Change Era," could not be more relevant. 🧑🏾🌾 Across Africa, 50 to 85% of farm work continues to be through human power using machetes, hoes and spades. To provide food and nutrition security, it is critical that innovations and scalable technologies are embraced in a way that meets the demands of Africa’s growing population while adhering to inclusiveness and sustainability principles 👩🏾🌾 🌍 As mentioned by Godfrey Bahiigwa on behalf of AUC Commissioner Josefa Sacko “we must innovate through increased investments in agricultural research and development. We must accelerate the rate of development and adoption of appropriate technologies and innovations. We must do so at a scale that will match the needs of the continent: food and nutrition security, jobs for youth and women, and wealth creation while protecting the environment. In short, we need to build sustainable and resilient agrifood systems for a healthy and prosperous Africa.” 👉 Keep watching this space for updates as innovators, policymakers, and thought leaders from across the globe are joining forces to move agrifood systems transformation across the continent and beyond! #AfricaFoodSystems #AgricultureInnovation #SustainableFarming #TransformingAgriculture #SustainableAgriculture #Innovation #FutureOfFood #AFSF2024

Today, I had the incredible opportunity to sit down with #GeraldHalter, the First Counsellor and Head of Corporation at the #EuropeanUnion Delegation in Sierra Leone. Our discussion centred around the vital contributions of the #EU to the Feed Salone Strategy, particularly focusing on the operationalization of Pillar Three (3) of the Government of Sierra Leone flagship program #FeedSalone Gerald shared insights on how the #EU is actively supporting Sierra Leone's efforts to enhance food systems, highlighting the collaborative initiatives that aim to create sustainable pathways for food security. We explored how Sierra Leone's experience can serve as a model for other nations striving to implement their own food systems pathways, especially through the Sustainable Agro-food Systems Intelligence #SASI and the broader UN Food Systems Summit (UNFSS) goals. It’s inspiring to see how international cooperation and local knowledge can work hand-in-hand to transform food systems and improve livelihoods. Together, we are paving the way for a more secure and sustainable future. #FeedSalone #FAO4Betters #EUSupport #FoodSystems #SASI #UNFSS #SustainablePartnership

Do you believe stories can shape the future of food systems? Today, I am proud to share that I am beginning my new role as an AfriFOODlinks Youth Ambassador for the city of Arusha! 🏙️Our cities hold undiscovered potential to create healthier, more sustainable ways to feed ourselves and our planet. This groundbreaking project, funded by the European union and coordinated by ICLEI Africa, is aiming at transforming Urban food environments by strengthening inter-city linkages in Africa and Europe. 💼As ambassador I will be creating stories of Arusha food systems, from traditional dishes to innovative solutions, collaborate with the city leaders, food system experts, and fellow change makers to turn these stories into tangible action and also attending training and peer- exchange events. 🌍This journey will culminates with in-person Intergenerational Dialogue in Cape Town, South Africa 🇿🇦 which I will attend and represent Arusha's unique food system needs and priorities on a global stage. Imagine a world where everyone enjoys access to nutritious, environmentally conscious food choices. That's the future AfriFOODlinks envisions, and I am honored to play a role in shaping it. Follow along as I document Arusha's food stories, lessons learned, and the exciting potential for cities to lead the way in building a more just and sustainable food future. #afrifoodlinks #throughfood #food2030eu #sustainability #youthleadership #youthincluded
