Goal 3.4 of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals is to "reduce by one third premature mortality from non-communicable diseases through prevention and treatment and promote mental health and well-being" by 2030. Cancer, a non-communicable disease, affects people all over the world. And there are major inequalities when it comes to treatment access, depending on where you live. At the ICR's Centre for Global Oncology, Dr. Anguraj Sadanandam, Ph.D. and colleagues are working to connect researchers all over the world so that we can better tackle worldwide disparities in cancer outcomes. The sun was out in force today in Lyon, so much so I couldn't keep my eyes open for a photo apparently 🤣☀️ Anyways, more importantly, I'm here in Lyon this week at #IARC with Elena Jimenez and Carlos Canelo-Aybar representing the evidence review team, while supporting the Expert Working Group of the EC-CVC in making recommendations on cervical cancer screening methods. #evidencesynthesis #systematicreviews #guidelines
IARC is hosting the Expert Working Group of the European Commission #EC Initiative on #CervicalCancer (EC-CvC) as they review the latest scientific evidence on the effectiveness of different #cervicalscreening methods in reducing cancer mortality. Following this, the group will make recommendations that could be used by policy makers on screening methods and age ranges in European Union Member states. This is part of a roadmap to update the evidence-based guidelines and develop a quality assurance scheme for cervical cancer care services in the EU. IARC’s Early Detection, Prevention & Infections Branch is leading the initiative in collaboration with the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (EC-JRC) and funded by @HaDEA Find out more about the project here 👉https://lnkd.in/eA28nNvC

As the world marks #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth we know that 1 in 7 women will get a cancer diagnosis and at an increasingly younger age. Only 21% of women across 14 European countries are aware of the connection between #alcohol consumption and the risk of developing #breastcancer – a risk that starts with low levels of drinking. Every year some 56, 000 people will receive a diagnosis. At least 30% are preventable. Breast Cancer UK are the only UK charity to campaign for and research prevention and have created a wide range of excellent high-engagement resources to help us reduce our risk. Let’s prevent the preventable. https://lnkd.in/e5jbijxR
📢 Did you know... ⚠️ Alcohol is responsible for around 1 in 11 deaths in the WHO European Region and is linked to more than 200 diseases, including at least seven types of cancer, such as breast and colorectal cancer. Despite the serious health risks, less than half of Europeans are aware of this link. 🎗️ As part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the new WHO/Europe #RedefineAlcohol campaign calls on people to rethink their relationship with alcohol, to be aware of the risks and harm it can cause to health and to take seriously the benefits of drinking #lessalcohol.
