As we ponder the future of climate-resilient agriculture, we find inspiration in Peru's innovative irrigation projects. The World Bank's initiative, P179037, has been instrumental in promoting water management practices that bolster farmers' ability to adapt to the changing climate. I recently came across a procurement plan outlined by Mara Teresa Sanchez Lechuga, which highlights the importance of investing in irrigation systems that support small-scale farmers. This not only ensures food security but also empowers local communities to become more resilient. How can we, as agvocates, support the implementation of such projects in other regions? #abutispinach #Agvocate #AgroDiplomacy 🌾💡🌎

As an agronomist and founder of Abuti Spinach, I'm passionate about empowering small-scale farmers in Africa through innovative solutions. Recently, I came across an interesting concept - virtual water, which refers to the amount of water used to produce a particular crop or product. In South Africa, agriculture accounts for 60% of total water usage, making it essential to optimize water management. By understanding virtual water, farmers and consumers can make better decisions about crop selection, irrigation systems, and supply chain management. This insight can ultimately lead to more efficient use of water resources, reducing waste and promoting sustainable agriculture. What role do you think virtual water can play in shaping the future of agriculture in Africa? 🌾💡🔍 #abutispinach #Agvocate #AgroDiplomacy[Collection]

🌽 Growing Maize the Right Way: Optimizing Conditions for Maximum Yield 🌱💧 Maize is more than just a staple crop—it's a cornerstone of global agriculture. But achieving its full potential requires precision in climate, soil, water, and nutrient management. Here’s what we cover in today’s post: ✅ Ideal temperature and climate for maize growth ✅ The importance of balanced irrigation and nutrient application ✅ How modern practices like shallow-buried drip irrigation (SBDI) and biochar can boost yields ✅ Managing challenges like drought and uneven rainfall with integrated strategies Whether you’re a farmer, agribusiness professional, or sustainability advocate, understanding these optimal conditions can transform maize farming practices and drive productivity. #MaizeFarming #SustainableAgriculture #CropOptimization #SmartFarming #AgricultureInnovation

🌱 Tackling Soil Salinization in Agriculture 🌾 Soil salinization is a serious issue, affecting 20% of irrigated farmland worldwide and threatening agricultural productivity. But there are proven methods to mitigate its effects and protect our soils: - Efficient Irrigation: Drip irrigation and sprinkler systems apply water directly to plant roots, reducing salt buildup in the soil. - Improved Drainage: Subsurface drainage systems can reduce soil salinity by up to 10%, enhancing soil health and crop yields. - Salt-Tolerant Crops: Planting resilient crops like barley and cotton helps maintain productivity in saline soils. - Conservation Agriculture: Practices like crop rotation and minimal soil disturbance help improve soil health and prevent long-term salinization. By implementing these strategies, farmers can preserve their soil and ensure sustainable, productive farming systems. #SoilHealth #SustainableFarming #SoilSalinization #AgricultureInnovation #FarmingSolutions #SoilManagement #AgriTech #CropHealth

Our Initiative #Future Food Together supports the #WORLD FOOD DAY – Right to Food 2024. And what could be more important to us than supporting those who produce our daily food? Small farmers in particular often form the backbone of the food supply in developing countries, and yet they have only limited access to modern sustainable farming technologies, adequate irrigation infrastructure, and market access. #Future Food Together addresses these challenges. And sometimes all it takes is just a small incentive to create a big change. Read more about it in our story Small Impulse, Big Change from our project region in the Mondulkiri province in eastern Cambodia https://lnkd.in/eJYNeVfm

If there is one thing that I want to drill out of farmers brains in DRC, it is the agricultural calendar. The agricultural calendar states that there are two planting #seasons. As a matter of fact, it follows the #rain cycles. When it rains, you plant. When it doesn't rain. You don't. When rains become unpredictable. Figure yourself out!! Because of the #agricultural calendar, #smallholders are stuck in a cyclic climate dependent production. Food availability is limited to climate friendlessness. Agribusinesses are as unreliable as the rains. And the whole food systems cannot develop Let's get it straight There is no planting season in DRC. Every season is planting season. Every month is planting season. Every day is planting season. With the right technology, we do not have to depend on the rains. We can install our own #irrigation systems and ensure, not season, but year-round food production. To drill it out and push the agricultural revolution, MabeleAgric show the way!
