During #NationalForestWeek, we’re highlighting efforts to include Indigenous communities in sustainable development of natural resources. Our researchers are collaborating with Indigenous communities in northern Ontario to learn ways to increase their involvement in community-based monitoring, forest management planning, and wildfire management near their communities. By working together towards common goals, we're hoping to foster collaboration and ensure accepted and effective resource management that considers Indigenous knowledge and western science. This is definitely a must read for everyone in my network who is interested in understanding the ongoing conflict between livelihood security and forest conservation. My time at Yale University has helped me understand the importance of these globally pertinent issues and would highly recommend this book to everyone who wishes to get a public policy perspective on them. #yale #environmentyale #yalesom #yaleforestry #isb #ConservationFinanceNetwork PS: Super proud of my father Praveen Srivastava, the author of this book and my guiding light

This is shaping up to be special. How do we carve out space to green streets and embed climate resilience, and how to we design climatically just streets when we’ve done that. That’s what I will talk about I reckon.
Climate Resilient Streets 2024 is coming soon. It will bring together practitioners from a range of disciplines working to create environments designed to cope with extreme weather events as well as supporting biodiversity, habitat and ecology space. A stellar line-up of speakers will discuss new methods for alleviating the impact of floods and the 'heat island' effect in cities. Panellists will explain how to create nature reserves and green corridors along road verges, and measures such as smart rain gardens and 'spongey surfaces', green roofs and walls. There will also be sessions on how to overcome the barriers to developing projects and the benefits of forming partnerships. Join us at Hatfields, London SE1, on 14 November. Grateful to my dear friend Rosaleen Barrow for gifting me Our Future in Nature: Trees, Spirituality, and Ecology, written by her incredibly talented husband. This thought-provoking book explores the significance of sacred trees and groves, especially in our increasingly urbanized world. It offers a unique perspective that bridges spirituality, environmentalism, and the importance of conservation. As we face growing ecological challenges, this book serves as a powerful reminder to cherish and protect our natural world. Highly recommend it for anyone passionate about sustainability and the environment. 🌍 #Leadership #Sustainability #Conservation #EnvironmentalAwareness #Gratitude"

🌊 Did you know that citizen scientists play a crucial role in marine research? 👩🔬 That's right! Citizen scientists who volunteer to survey beach litter, observe water quality, or biodiversity, all provide critical data that informs science-based, marine conservation efforts and policy decisions at local, national and EU level. 🌿 At LandSeaLot, we are planning to activate citizen science groups towards increasing the observation capacity of the land-sea interface, which can help with enhancing biodiversity, promoting carbon sequestration, or strengthening climate resilience in coastal regions! 🐠 What are you waiting for? Follow us to learn more about upcoming initiatives to train and support citizen scientists! 👉 Now also on X, follow us, link in the comments! #EUgreendeal #Water #Marine #Biodiversity #Research #Community #Volunteer #CitizenScience #WorldOceanrDay #EuropeanResearch #LandSeaInterface #LandSeaLot European Research Executive Agency (REA) TransEurope Marinas SMHI Ifremer

The 5th of June is #WorldEnvironmentDay, a reminder to take action against environmental degradation! Ecosystems worldwide are at risk, and it’s crucial to address this challenge. This year’s focus is on land restoration, halting desertification, and building drought resilience. At Biodiversa+, we’re committed to supporting successful land restoration through excellent and impactful research. One of our most recent initiatives? The launch of the BiodivRestore Knowledge Hub. As the name suggests, it’s all about nature restoration! To learn a bit more about it: ➡️ https://lnkd.in/euYxaac7 In for more reading? Here are two options: 🙌 The UN Environment Programme has created a practical guide designed to help get everyone involved in ecosystem restoration. It is organised into several chapters such as food systems, freshwater ecosystems, human habitats, and lastly, humans including businesses, governments and everyday citizens: ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gAUgz9_4 ✍️ On another note, science associations and networks across Europe (Society for Conservation Biology, Alternet, Society for Ecological Restoration (SER) Europe, Ecosystem Services Partnership, Society of Wetland Scientists, European Ecological Federation, EuropeForNature, Scientists For Future #S4F, Gesellschaft Für Ökologie MbH, Society of Wetland Scientists...) have written an open letter to express their concerns over a series of policy decisions that undermine the EU’s environmental agenda: ➡️ https://lnkd.in/d-TiR-q7 🎵 And if you're here just for the music (🤷): ➡️ https://lnkd.in/ekDwzSTW #GenerationRestoration

What a fantastic document Government Architect NSW! This can be utilised by anyone: professionals and public alike. Simple language and clear graphics that is as engaging as it is important.
AILA would like to congratulate the NSW Government Architect (GANSW) on their recently launched Biodiversity in Place Framework. https://https://lnkd.in/gAUSX9B9 The Framework provides a practical guide to bring nature back into our cities, towns and suburbs. It provides industry, community groups and government agencies with a roadmap to design for biodiversity in new and existing developments. The Framework can be viewed here. Keep an eye on AILA’s events page for an upcoming AILA-member webinar that will unpack the document further.
