#JobOpportunities #ApprenticeshipJourney #CareerDecisions Hey everyone! 😊 I could really use some advice here. I'm currently facing a bit of a dilemma regarding two business admin apprenticeship offers and I’d love to hear your thoughts! So here’s the scoop: Apprenticeship A: I've received an offer for a business admin receptionist position, but the pay is only around £6.40 per hour (which is about $8 USD). Not the best, right? Apprenticeship B: I have an upcoming interview for a similar role, but the pay is significantly better—£22-23k per year (around $27-28k USD)! The catch? The start date for this position isn't until March. Here’s where it gets tricky. If I accept Apprenticeship A, there's a strong chance my interview for Apprenticeship B might get cancelled. Why? Because once I’m registered as an apprentice under A, it’ll show up on the government website, and potential employers can see it. That could put a big dent in my chances with Apprenticeship B. On the flip side, if ... How to Choose Between Overlapping Business Admin Apprenticeships? Answers: https://lnkd.in/gBFqB_fA Let's Connect! Have you faced similar challenges? Share your insi...

Dear Nurse Intern [7] Internship period is the best time to save up. As fresh graduates, many of us still receive allowances from our parents, which often supplements our income and reduces our expenses. The good thing is medical professionals often earn more during internship than they do during National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in many regions. It is therefore crucial to recognize this disparity in earnings and leverage it wisely for your future financial stability Here's why saving up during internship is essential: ⏩Higher Earning Potential: Internship salaries are typically higher compared to the stipends received during NYSC. This provides an opportunity to save a significant portion of the income during the internship period. ⏩Limited Expenses: During internship, many of us are fortunate to receive financial support from our parents, and some even have the privilege of living with them, which means we don't have to worry about expenses like rent or food. This arrangement significantly reduces our financial burden and allows us to save more of our internship earnings. NB: Say NO to impulsive buying❌ Your account balance can give this false feeling of "I have plenty money sha" ⏩Future Financial Security: Saving up during internship ensures that you have a financial cushion for when you transition to lower-paying roles during your NYSC programs. It helps to bridge the gap between the higher earning potential of internship and the lower stipends of subsequent training phases. ⏩Emergency Fund: Building up savings during internship establishes an emergency fund that can be tapped into during unforeseen circumstances or emergencies. ⏩Investment Opportunities: Saving during internship opens up opportunities for young professionals to invest their money wisely. Starting to invest early can lead to long-term wealth accumulation and financial growth. ⏩Financial Independence: Accumulating savings during internship empowers you to have greater financial independence and autonomy, allowing you to make decisions based on your goals and aspirations rather than financial constraints. By prioritizing saving during internship period when earnings are higher, you can lay a solid foundation for your financial future, ensuring greater stability and security as you progress in your careers. As part of CEWIL/ECAIT Canada’s National Co-op & WIL Month, we will be highlighting the 9 types of Work-Integrated Learning (WIL), as defined by CEWIL Canada. Today we will be talking about Co-operative Education (also known as Co-Op)! What is Co-operative Education? Co-op actually has two different models: Co-op alternating and Co-op internship. Co-op alternating consists of alternating academic terms and paid work terms. Co-op internship consists of several co-op work terms back-to-back. In both models, work terms provide experience in a workplace setting related to the student’s field of study. The number of required work terms varies by program; however, the time spent in work terms must be at least 30% of the time spent in academic study for programs over 2 years in length and 25% of time for programs 2 years and shorter in length. Benefits of Co-ops: - Application of classroom knowledge: Students get to put their academic learning to the test in real-world situations, solidifying their understanding and developing practical skills. - Development of essential workplace skills: Students gain valuable experience in communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and time management, skills which are highly sought-after by employers. - Exploration of career options: Students test-drive different fields and companies before graduation, helping them discover their ideal career path. - Resume & Career Development: Co-op experience demonstrates a student's initiative, work ethic, and commitment to their field, giving them a competitive edge in the job market and providing valuable references. Want to see a real-world example of how VIU students are thriving in the workplace? Check out this story about a VIU Co-op student and their experience with the BC Wildfire Service - https://lnkd.in/gUqptz8K Learn more about co-ops and internships supported by the VIU Centre for Experiential Learning: https://lnkd.in/euz2Qp9v #VIUCareerStudio #CEWIL #WIL #CooperativeEducation #RealWorldExperience #CareerReady #FutureofWIL

🔍 Reflecting on my journey as a dietitian, I've encountered firsthand the ways major corporations exploit interns. From the outset of my internship, I was thrust into a whirlwind of tasks, evolving from answering calls to managing entire wards, spanning from general to specialized units like ICU and CCU. Despite assuming full responsibilities within a month, I remained sidelined from internal meetings, a disheartening exclusion. Even after transitioning to a stipend-based role, my efforts were undervalued, with new hires, lacking experience but holding degrees, receiving double my stipend. This disparity begs the question: Does a degree hold more weight than experience? 💼 Internships, while invaluable learning opportunities, can sometimes blur the line between intern and full-time employee. My experience highlights this ambiguity, as I found myself performing tasks identical to those of full-time staff without the corresponding recognition or inclusion in internal discussions. Such discrepancies raise ethical concerns about fairness and transparency within internship structures. 💡 My journey sheds light on the challenges faced by interns who essentially function as full-time employees. While entrusted with significant responsibilities, the lack of recognition and equitable treatment underscores the need for reform in internship practices to prevent exploitation of interns as a source of cheap labor. Let's open a dialogue to address these issues and advocate for fairer, more ethical internship experiences. #InternshipExploitation #FairTreatment #EthicalEmployment #Nutrition #Healthcare #DietitianvsDoctor #EvidenceBasedPractice #ProfessionalEthicsMatter #LegalJustice #RespectForProfessions
