Our late-stage pipeline is full of solutions for patients who need #innovation. Take a look at our Annual Report for more details: https://lnkd.in/g6y_KHsx I want all of these innovative drugs to reach Australian patients as quickly as possible! The reality is, that it takes too long for new medicines to enter the PBS (391 days from registration to funding) - and some unfortunately never make it here. We need an #HTAReform which reduces time to access for patients, turns Australia into a first-launch country for new medicines (right now, we aren't) and future-proof our health system so that it keeps pace with new technologies. #StrongerPBS

ALL I WANT FOR XMAS! Looking back to Madi at only 12 years old heading down to Queens Park to beg for her life. Dramatic, not at all, she was in the fight for her life. Despite Cystic Fibrosis stealing her health and promising a very shortened lifespan she did not have access to a therapy that has since saved and changed her life. Why might you ask would a child have to fight so desperately to access a drug that was proven both safe and effective. Let me answer that for you, it's because although science and innovation have forged ahead providing lifesaving therapies for some Rare Diseases Canada's drug pathway has not. Patients are being left behind at many system junctions along the way. Drug approval due to limited clinical data because a disease may be ultra rare, HTA may be creating access obstruction by writing unrealistic access criteria. PcPA who often feels Canada should pay less than anywhere else in the world and last but not least awaiting the individual provinces and territories to add to their formularies. All Madi wanted for Xmas was the right to access a drug that has her with us today, I know there are many patients in the same position. When will we see a system that sees patients not having to beg to be saved? Do Canadiens not deserve better? Are we willing to continue to accept the lack of urgency continuing to be expressed by our out of date system? We have something we can do, ask our provinces and territories to sign on to the Rare Disease Drug Strategy. Is it perfect, no, but it is a step towards a system that recognizes the unique needs of the Rare Community. Let's band together to get this done. No child should be spending their holidays begging for life. #pleaseshare #strongerttogether #raredisease #healthpolicy #rarediseaseawareness #xmaswish

Curious about how the evolution of essential medicines is shaping healthcare? In his latest article, Zwelethu Bashman, President of IPASA and Managing Director of MSD sub-Saharan Africa, delves into the journey and ambitions of essential medicines lists (EMLs). From battlefield essentials to the quest for universal healthcare, discover how EMLs have transformed over the decades to address a wide spread of diseases. “Historically, EMLs have facilitated access to primary care and high-volume treatments, promoting cost-effective healthcare delivery worldwide. Today, the WHO's EML now includes 1200 recommendations for 591 drugs and 103 therapeutic equivalents, adapting to include children's medications and accommodate global health needs” remarks Zweli. It was a great pleasure to be at #PharmAus24 last night with Medicines Australia, representatives of the industry, the amazing patient advocacy community and parliamentarians - and witness firsthand the formal launch of the Federal Government HTA Review’s Final Report. There was high energy in the room as the formal announcement was made, which included confirmation of the appointment of an independent implementation group and a ‘leading figure’ to take charge and drive forward the reforms. This next step will be eagerly awaited. In the meantime, many will be pouring over the reports and carefully considering the 50 recommendations outlined to improve access to medicines and vaccines through the PBS. View here https://lnkd.in/gf9R8Je6. As reinforced by Medicines Australia, the report 'outlines the need for system-wide reform to address inequities in patient access, improve timely access to medicines, encourage companies to bring innovative medicines to Australia, and improve engagement with patients to value what matters to them.’ Acknowledgement must be given to the incredible Elizabeth de Somer for completing this substantial undertaking for industry – and her determination and tenacity to set this up as effectively as possible for all critical stakeholders – and ultimately the Australian community. A focussed, determined approach and collaboration will be essential for this next critical phase – to maintain momentum and delivery as Federal Election25 priorities get firmly underway. With due respect, it's more than base camp - we're now heading to the Summit! Cube #HTAReview #accesstomedicines #healthreforms #healthcare
