During the two incredible days I spent at the annual meeting of AESGP in Brussels, I had the privilege of engaging in meaningful discussions and gaining valuable insights. Congrats to AESGP on their 60th anniversary of building a better and trustable sector in EU. Here are some key takeaways that I found particularly enlightening: The #Selfcare has the potential to significantly alleviate healthcare systems worldwide in two crucial ways. Firstly, by promoting healthy habits, encouraging the use of food supplements, and enhancing health literacy, we can effectively avoid healthcare expenses. Secondly, increasing private expenditure, especially on over-the-counter (OTC) products, can lead to significant savings. It's time to shift the paradigm from viewing healthcare costs as expenses to recognizing them as investments in health. The role of pharmacists has undergone significant transformation and will continue to evolve. Pharmacists play a vital role in promoting health literacy within their communities, ultimately leading to the early adoption of healthy lifestyles and the effective use of self-care interventions such as OTC products, supplements, and devices. All stakeholders must champion the cause of enhancing health literacy and develop strategies to make it a reality. The ongoing advancements in AI, digital tools, and devices are set to revolutionize the healthcare landscape, empowering consumers to make informed decisions about self-care. Lastly, it was an honor to have and listen to my Sanofi colleague Penny Glover participating in the panel discussion on the future of switching. I take great pride in standing alongside my Sanofi colleagues and contributing to the advancement of better and more accessible healthcare for all.
