Imaging extracellular vesicles in vivo: in their review article, Prakash Gangadaran (PhD), Byeong-Cheol Ahn at Kyungpook National University and collaborators reviewed cutting-edge methods for labelling EVs, such as optical, magnetic resonance, and nuclear imaging techniques. The strengths and limitations of each approach were thoroughly analysed, with a focus on their potential for clinical translation https://lnkd.in/gA35GRnh They emphasised the pressing need to resolve current challenges in EV biology and therapeutic applications and called for ongoing research to better understand the complexities of EVs and their clinical significance. Another win for science! 🏆 Our Woolly Mammoth team has achieved a global-first iPSC breakthrough. iPSC cells are a single cell source that can propagate indefinitely, giving rise to every other type of cell in a body, and while other species’ iPSCs have been readily available for years, elephant iPSCs were always elusive… until now. Invaluable for Colossal’s Woolly Mammoths, these cells can be multiplex-edited and differentiated to study cold adaptation traits like woolly hair growth and fat storage! 🤯 This progress holds tremendous potential for studying cell development, cell therapy, synthetic embryos, in vitro gametogenesis, and the use of iPSCs for nuclear transfer across ALL species! #MolecularDocking has become an essential aspect of in-silico drug development in recent years. This technique involves predicting the interaction between a small molecule and a protein at the atomic level. This enables researchers to study the behavior of small molecules, such as nutraceuticals, within the binding site of a target protein and understand the fundamental biochemical process underlying this interaction. The technique is structure-based and requires a high-resolution 3D representation of the target protein obtained through techniques like X-ray crystallography, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy, or Cryo-Electron Microscopy. I’m excited to share that I’ve published an article titled “Study on novel neutron irradiation without beam shaping assembly in Boron Neutron Capture Therapy,” co-authored with Javier Praena, in Scientific Reports (Volume 14, Article number: 22434, 2024), as a key part of my PhD. Abstract: Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT) uses high-intensity neutron sources, but direct patient irradiation can be tricky due to the high energy of primary neutrons. Our research proposes an innovative approach that eliminates the need for a Beam Shaping Assembly (BSA). Instead, we generate neutrons suitable for direct patient irradiation through the Sc(p,n)Ti reaction using near-threshold protons. Our findings demonstrate that all IAEA quality factors for BNCT can be met with existing proton accelerators, opening the door for simpler accelerator-based facilities. This work is based on experimental data and Monte Carlo simulations and is currently under evaluation for patent. You can read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/d_nP75pc.
