Dr. Jane Morrison (Bishop's University) in collaboration with Dr. Geneviève Labrie (UQAM | Université du Québec à Montréal) received funding with Centre SÈVE 2024 New Investigator Competition. They have been awarded a grant for a project focused on the "Ecosystem Service Multifunctionality of Biodiverse Hedgerows in Organic Polyculture Production Systems". Their research will explore the ecosystem service multifunctionality of biodiverse hedgerows in organic polyculture systems. By examining multiple ecosystem services simultaneously, including pollinator support, pest control, soil health improvement, and crop yield enhancement, the study aims to evaluate the agricultural potential and practicality of biodiverse hedgerows for small-scale farms. The project will conduct experiments at a primary site and partner farms, ultimately developing a decision tool to help farmers assess the viability of implementing biodiverse hedgerows in their specific contexts.
