Setting the push-pull trap for more pests Dr. Frank Chidawanyika, PhD ( Pr. Sc. Nat.), a scientist in the Push-pull Program under the Plant Health Theme at the ICIPE - International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (icipe), discusses how the pushpull technology, originally used to control the stemborer in maize and sorghum is evolving as an effective tool in managing more pests in more crops and promoting soil health. https://lnkd.in/d9be-NZJ

David & Wilma are in Manchester today at the Organic Research Centre Cultivating Wisdom Conference. The theme of the event is agroecology innovation, and the speakers are people from within the industry, sharing their practical experiences of on-farm research. David was speaking (for a bit longer than he should have!) about productivity, and shared some of our data. This is a topic we are really passionate about, because the only way to encourage more people to consider nature based farming, is to show that agroecological systems are productive and profitable. #cowcalfdairy #ethicaldairy #agroecology #cultivatingwisdom

🌱 Exploring the Role of H₂S in Plant Biology: A Key to Sustainable Agriculture 🌱 as delving into fascinating insights regarding the role of hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) in plant biology. This image perfectly captures its influence on critical physiological processes that align with the growing goals in sustainable agriculture. From root development to post-harvest management, H₂S impacts a wide range of functions, including: 🌿 Leaf Senescence: Slowing down the aging process to optimize crop lifespan. 🍃 Chlorophyll Improvement: Enhancing photosynthesis for better growth efficiency. 🌱 Seed Germination: Supporting robust and uniform germination. 🍅 Post-Harvest Management: Extending shelf life and reducing agricultural waste. 🌻 Flower Development: Promoting healthier reproductive stages. 🌾 Stomatal Dynamics: Managing gas exchange and water retention, especially under stress. With the increasing need for crop resilience, improved productivity, and sustainable practices in agriculture, the importance of molecules like H₂S is more apparent than ever. This growing field offers exciting opportunities for enhancing agricultural systems that align with environmental sustainability. 🌍 #PlantBiology #SustainableAgriculture #H2S #Botany #CropScience #AgriculturalInnovation #PlantPhysiology #FutureOfFarming #PostHarvestManagement #Photosynthesis #AgTech

𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗜𝗦 𝗔 𝗦𝗢𝗜𝗟 𝗜𝗡𝗢𝗖𝗨𝗟𝗔𝗡𝗧?🌱 _______________________ A Soil Inoculant, also known as microbial inoculant or bioinoculant, is an agricultural amendment that uses beneficial rhizosphericic or endophytic microbes to promote plant health. Probiotic farming on the other hand is sometimes also referred to as biointensive agriculture, which combines various organic farming techniques that focus on making the soil healthier. BioPro Gro is a Concentrated Probiotic Soil Inoculant. Please read my article in the newest issue of the Journal of the Japanese Association for Rural Agricultural and Forestry Economics! Thank you so much to Joji Muramoto & Junko Habu for their recommendation and Amber Sciligo for her careful review. My article argues that the #Organic label has the power to be an "agroecology policy lever," and the good folks at The Berkeley Food Institute among other places are putting this into practice 😎 Please take a look at the awesome work of my collaborators & our mighty editor Kae Sekine. This is a great group of people that I hope leads to more international connections 🌟 🌿 🔜 #publicpolicy #agriculture #certification #agchat #agroecology

💥 Deadline: 10 JUNE 2024💥 📥📤📈 #Agriculture #MDPI 🚩 Special Issue➡️"Exploring Cereal Biodiversity for Climate Change Mitigation in Agricultural Production" ➡️Guest edited Prof. Dr. Jerzy Henryk Czembor 👨🎓🧬🌾🔬🧩📈🧑🌾💚 💥➡️The Impact Factor for /Agriculture/ increased to 📈3.6, ranking Q1 (17 of 88)➡️ “Agronomy” category.📤👍💚 💥For authors - 🚩 Special Issue ➡️Author Benefits: Open Access; High visibility; ➡️Special Discounts; No Extra Charges; Thorough Peer-Review and Decisions; Coverage by Leading Indexing Services 👨🎓🧬🌾🔬🧩📈🧑🌾💚 #cereal #climatechange #biodiversity #foodsecurity #resistance #plantbreeding #genebank #germplasm #genomics #wheat #barley #oats #rye #rice #corn #millet #sorghum Dear Colleagues, Agriculture is an economic activity which relies heavily on the climate in order to produce the food and bioindustrial materials necessary to sustain human life. Climate change is a major concern, not only for farmers but also for whole communities in many countries worldwide. Plant genetic resources (PGR) are amongst the most important resources for sustainable and climate-smart agriculture. However, a decrease in the level of biological diversity and degradation of plant genetic resources has been observed. This indicates that the conservation of PGR and their characterisation for plant breeding purposes is urgently needed. Global food security and a sustainable agriculture system can be ensured by improving cereal production through agronomic management, the proper use of PGR in breeding of climate-adapted cereal cultivars and increasing cereal genetic biodiversity in sustainable agricultural landscape. The genetic diversity of cereal varieties will allow adaptation to changing climatic conditions in agricultural ecosystems and overcome threats to food security caused by biotic (pests, diseases) and abiotic factors. This Special Issue focuses on the role cereal biodiversity in climate change mitigation in agricultural production. For this reason, we welcome highly interdisciplinary, high-quality studies from disparate research fields including agriculture, crop protection, ecology, landscaping, environmentalism, PGR conservation and characterisation, genetics and plant breeding. Original research articles, communications and reviews (including mini-reviews) are accepted. Prof. Dr. Jerzy Henryk Czembor Guest Editor Manuscript Submission Information Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. ... Dr. Jane Morrison (Bishop's University) in collaboration with Dr. Geneviève Labrie (UQAM | Université du Québec à Montréal) received funding with Centre SÈVE 2024 New Investigator Competition. They have been awarded a grant for a project focused on the "Ecosystem Service Multifunctionality of Biodiverse Hedgerows in Organic Polyculture Production Systems". Their research will explore the ecosystem service multifunctionality of biodiverse hedgerows in organic polyculture systems. By examining multiple ecosystem services simultaneously, including pollinator support, pest control, soil health improvement, and crop yield enhancement, the study aims to evaluate the agricultural potential and practicality of biodiverse hedgerows for small-scale farms. The project will conduct experiments at a primary site and partner farms, ultimately developing a decision tool to help farmers assess the viability of implementing biodiverse hedgerows in their specific contexts.
